Phoenix, Arizona Colleges & Universities - The Choice Is Yours!
OK, so we don't have Harvard, Yale, or the Ivy League - but Arizona is awash with higher education, and Metro Phoenix has a whole host of schools to fit every student's taste and learning style.
First of all, there are the three state universities:
Though both ASU and UA were founded in 1885, UA is considered the state's first university, and has the only medical school in Arizona that grants M.D. degrees. There's a BIG rivalry between the Tempe and Tucson schools. Those of us who are fans or alums of either school are easily riled when national announcers confuse one school for the other during sporting events, which seems to happen quite often ... now that I think about it.

But beyond the four-year institutions, the Phoenix area also is home to the Maricopa County Community College District, which oversees 10 campuses in cities all over the Valley: Chandler-Gilbert, Avondale,
Phoenix, Glendale, Mesa, Paradise Valley, and Scottsdale. These schools specialize in university transfer, continuing education, and career and job training programs.
If it's a graduate degree you're after, we've got those, too! A.T. Still University, in Mesa, offers graduate level education in integrated healthcare, which combines traditional allopathic medicine with more natural approaches. Midwestern University, in Glendale, offers a number of health degrees, from pharmacy to physical therapy to dental medicine to optometry. Phoenix School of Law is the only law school in the state that offers part-time and evening law degree programs. Thunderbird School of Global Management, in Glendale, recently received its 14th #1 ranking for top International Full-Time MBA from U.S. News & World Report. The Financial Times also awarded Thunderbird the same distinction for 2009.
But wait ... there's more! (Don't you miss those Ginsu Knife commercials? Ah ... the good, old days. Here's the original Ginsu commercial, if you want to relive the glory days of late-night TV ads.)
We've also got for-profit institutions, like the Art Institute of Phoenix and Scottsdale's le cordon bleu school, the Scottsdale Culinary Institute. Love their domain name: www.CHEFS.edu. And we've also got religious schools, places like the International Baptist College.
There are also two tribal institutions. One is the Navajo Nation's Diné College in Tsaile, Arizona. The other is the Tohono O'odham Community College in Sells, Arizona.
So if you're after a degree of virtually any sort, give metro Phoenix a look. Our choices in schools, phenomenal weather, and great housing market make it a win-win-win!

What are the rates like in Arizona? I know it is a low tax state, just wondering if Universities have to charge more tuition due to lower taxes?
