Kentucky Horse Park Lexington KY

I've visited the Kentucky Horse Park three times in the past month when family came in from out of town.  My grandchildren don't get a chance to see horses up close unless we load up and make a visit to the horse park.  When we do they become so enchanted I wonder if they have futures in the horse business.  Actually, I start wondering if a horse farm is in my future.  There are certainly lots of them out there.  Some are even for sale!

The Kentucky Horse Park is the perfect day trip from Lexington KY Cincinnati or Louisville.  Kentucky is proud of our horses and we're thrilled to be hosting the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in 2010.  The Kentucky Horse Park is the place to be if you're interested in the history of the horse.

By the time you see all there is to see you've taken some wonderful pictures, learned a lot about horses, and made memories for a lifetime.

  Kentucky Horse Park Pony Ride

Besides pony rides, the Kentucky Horse Park also has facinating horse shows, including the "Walk of Champions" where famous horses get to "brag" about their accomplishments within feet of an adoring crowd.  They show features of the races these horses won, then the horses are walked around for their photo ops.  It's a great chance to see horses such as, Cigar, who was the all time leading money winner when he retired in 1996, Horse of the Year in 1995 and 1996, Champion Older Horse in 1995 and 1996.

Plus:  He tied the record of 16 consecutive wins, was voted Racehorse of the Decade of the 1990s...Voted 18th best Racehorse of the 20th Century...had an unbeaten season in 1995, winning 10 out of 10 races. He was the all-time leading money winner at retirement Nov. 9, 1996
and the list goes on...

Cigar Chillin

Cigar is some horse.  But, he's only one of many at the Kentucky Horse Park.  For little Holly, Gizmo will always be the greatest horse alive, even if he never wins a race.

From giant draft horses to miniatures the size of big dogs, the Kentucky Horse Park seems to have one of everything.  We'll be going back often.  There is more to see than one day can do justice.

Monica, The horses are beautiful!  It's been so long for me, they're not close by here anymore.

I know how you feel.  When we lived in Virginia Beach I missed cattle.  The only time I got to see a cow was when I was on my way to visit family in Kentucky.  I always felt like something was missing in the city.

So, here I am living downtown...but in Lexington you're never far from livestock!  I'm even determined to get some chickens for my back yard.  (nice quiet ones)  ha   Well, they couldn't possibly make more noise than the fire engines.
