These days... with all the elephants that have been know to prowl my neighborhood... a girl can never be too careful.  That's why I have "protection."

Poor Miss Mollie T Cat.  I guess she has been sitting there... under my desk... a little too long.

I've been sitting here... AT my desk... making comments, reading posts, making sense of the groups I belong to, and happened to look down... just to see what Mollie T was doing.

There she was.  My faithful guard cat, companion and confidante... Miss Mollie T.  She was, of course, sitting there UNDER my desk in her "guard cat" position... but she was also... fast ASLEEP.

I'm not quite sure how she could be protecting me from all the elephants that roam my Texas neighborhood... and still be asleep at the same time... but somehow she does it.

At least... looking around... I don't SEE any elephants around.  I guess that Mollie IS just that good.  The elephants fear her... even when she is asleep.  What a kitty !

Karen Anne,

I heard that elephants are afraid of mice, but not that much of cats, but the true of the matter is that cats do not know that elephants are not afraid of them....anyway, no elephants - job well done. Deserves a treat.

Elephants on the prowl in Texas... maybe you need a tea cup poodle to help stand guard

Karen Anne, I'm amazed that she sleeps sitting up.  My kitties must be lazy they think they have to lay down to close their eyes.

We are cat people too.  Our little lady is "Talulah Belle".  Very sweet, very quiet... but she does love lizards.  She doesn't kill... just plays.  We are forever finding lizard tails and lizards with nubs all over our yard.

I wonder how many cat lovers reside in AR?

Awwwww - little Mollie T. is so gracious to allow you to take her picture while she naps.  I'm glad that she has staved off those elephants.  I hear they are a serious problem in your area.  :)

Mollie T, the great elephant hunter. I think she wasn't sleeping, she was deep in thought, and listening for the sounds of far off elephants. And sugar plums dancing in her head, LOL.

Cute kittie!

Karen - I'm sure that your precious guard kitty would hear elephants sneaking up on you! You can probably know that you are well taken care of by your mouse chasing guard! :0)

This is a great photo and I know my cat often sleep on guard duty!  However, once she has to she springs right into action.

Karen

Glad to hear that the elephants don't roam to close to your house.  It appears that Molly is pondering how she can prevent the other creatures from coming to near.

She closed her eyes the better to hear those dainty elephant feet in the distance!  What a sweet guard kitty... she's obviously doing a great job (and not even insisting on guarding from your lap!) :)

Karen Ann, that is soooo funny. My cat sleep at my feet too, but that is typically all curled up, nice and cozy. ~Rita

I'm not a cat person because I'm allergic - but I will speak in defense of Mollie T.  She was merely closing her eyes so she could heighten her other senses....allowing her to better hear the elephants before they got anywhere near.   I do hear that there are quite a few in your area.  Great picture!

Mollie was trying to stay awake while you were blogging on AR, but the tap, tap, tap of the keys hypnotized her.

Yaz at computer

Karen,

I think that Miss Mollie T Cat is doing a great job of guarding.  We cats are alert 24 hours a day even with our eyes shut.  You can see my eyes are shut as I guard Gary's computer.  I think you are very lucky that Miss Mollie T Cat has you as her human.

Robert:  I woke up Mollie T, gave her a hug for you, she gave me one back for you, then gave me the "kittie finger" for waking her up, and then went back to sleep.  Yikes.

Jon:  I hear that Florida elephants are quite different from Fort Worth elephants.  Mebbe because you folks have more circuses ?  Anyway, Miss Mollie T has a reputation to uphold... so... elephants beware.

Eric:  I am not sure how close Mollie T would let your tea cup poodle come to her.  She is not thrilled when my daughter's Shih Tzu comes to visit.  We shall see.  Mollie T said "thanks for the offer"... and then smiled kinda funny like... LOL.

Marchel:  Oh, Mollie T makes very good use of laying down and sleeping.  But... being the efficient elephant-chaser that she is... she takes her cat naps wherever and whenever she can.  She's my Baby.

Cathy:  Talulah Belle sounds like a real character.  We don't have lizards here... but we do have some geckos.  Or, is a gecko a lizard ?  I do not know.  City girl here.  Anyhoo... I don't think Mollie T has met either a gecko or a lizard.  I bet if you posted a video with Talulah Belle playing with her lizards, we would all enjoy watching very much.  :)  AR has many cat lovers, as the quickness and number of responses to this post attests.

Carol:  I mean... talk about being a serious problem.  You betcha !  (OMG... did I really say that ?)  Mollie T usually just scares them away... but once in awhile when she is feeling adventurous... she jumps on their backs and rides them around Wilshire Park... sometimes even rides them into the pond.  Fun to watch, but not fun to listen to.  Those elephants can get pretty noisy.

Andrea:  You are correct.  Mollie T. IS a great listener.  She can hear elephants approaching from miles away.  I think her tender little feet/paws actually feel the ground shiver when the elephants are walking.

Russ:  Noper.  No mouse could EVER sneak by this place.  They rarely will even venture onto the same block.  They know better.

Lindsey:  Oh... the security is just great here.  With Mollie T on guard... what's to worry about ?  Sometimes she sits on top of the piano looking out into the front yard... and watches the kids playing in the yards on either side of our home.  Sometimes they come over and wave to her... but she just sits there... watching them watch her.  She's a cutie.

Joan:  Oh yes.  Springing into action.  You can THINK she's all quiet and sleepie-eyed... but just LET some ol ornery elephant even THINK about coming near... and boingggg... yes, Millie T has been known to spring into action.  Fun to watch.  :)

Charles:  I am not sure the a creature that brave has been born yet.  Mollie T is a great combination of Guard Cat and "cuddle cat."  She loves to cuddle and snuggle, and if I am not responding, she reaches out her front paw, puts it on the other side of my hand, and drags my hand towards her.  She knows so much more about asking for affection when she needs it... than I ever will.

Shoshana:  Oh yes.  She can hear those dainty elephant feet quite well.  She really IS a lap kitty, though.  She also likes to sleep on the top of the back of the chair I sit in to watch TV... and occasionally puts her front two paws over my shoulder, and falls asleep that way, too.  Strangely enough... she loves to watch Hillary Clinton with me whenever she is on.  We watched the entire show on Meet The Press last week together... with Mollie T purring almost all the way through the show.  :)  Smart Kitty !

Bob and Carolin:  She is very much a cutie.  And yes, I have not seen an elephant in the neighborhood for years.  What a guard cat !

Sally:  Molie T.  Steadfast, loyal and true.  Wasn't that the name of an old Elvis Presley song ?  LOL.  She is quite cute... and she knows it... although she does not flaunt it.

Rita:  Mollie gets all rolled up into a nice and cozy sleepie ball when we go nightie night.  Right next to me... next to the pillow.  Once in a great while she will nudge up closer to me, and rest her little head in the elbow bend of my arm... and fall asleep purring like gangbusters.  It's a regular mother and kittie sleepie party.

Ruthmarie:  What a great idea !  I never thought of that... but then again, Mollie is prolly smarter than I am... at least in kitty cat things.  Yes... with her eyes closed... more energy and awareness can be funneled to her hearing.  Great point !  I wonder if Mollie will be ticked off now that, with your help, I have figured out what she is doing ?  I hope not.

Gabrielle:  Oh yes... Mollie T is beautiful... and I feel very protected.  Oh... you must know... I don't "let" Mollie T "do" anything.  As the saying goes... dogs have owners, cats have staff.  She owns me.

Gail:  Ya know, I wonder if she IS hypnotized ?  That would be funny.  She is very trusting, and I can easily pick her up... even when she is sleeping... and she just "hangs" there... like a sack of potatoes... slumped... but watching just what I intend to do with her... or where I am planning on putting her.  She usually allows it... and then when I let her alone, she either snuggles in to wherever I put her, or gets up and goes where she wants.  No complaints... she simply does whatever she wants to.

Yazmine:  Mollie T thanks you very much !  She says it appears you know good talent when you see it.  She also really likes the way you are using the keyboard as a pillow.  She has not tried that yet.  She will either walk around the desk or table where my computer is, but not interrupt me or the keyboard... OR...her other fun thing is to do figure eights around both my legs on the floor... and then actually sticks out one of her front paws... and "pets" the back of my calf... very, very gently... like she is actually petting me.  It is so sweet when she does that.

And oh, I know I am lucky that I am Mollie T's mom.  It appears that Gary is very lucky to have you taking care of him, too.  Be nice to him... you know how much guys need all the help they can get.  I bet he's very special.  :)

Gail:  Oh yes.  I feel very honored that Mollie T has chosen me to make a home for her.  Although she does not do the "Happy Dance"... her contented snuggle, and happy purr let me know she likes it here.

Oh how cute is that!!  My son is staying with us for a couple of weeks and has his black cat "bear" in our basement.  He wants to get outside so bad but I'm afraid he might get lost.  My dog Lola wants to play with him but I know he would get the better of her with those claws if she got too close.

Jenny:  Mollie T is very good at her job.  No kitty I know can guard like her, and no kitty I know can sleep like her.

Once in a great while Mollie T. goes to the door, and just sits there... turning her head around and looking at me.  Finally, I will go over, open the door, and then ask her... "ok... now what are you gonna do ?"  Sometimes she just sits there.  Once in awhile she will take maybe five or six steps out, stop, turn around, look at me with her very silly kitty face, and then turn around and run back inside."  It's just the way it works with Mollie T.

Sharon:  Yes... sometimes she just sits there and waits for me to quit.  Sometimes she just falls asleep... and sometimes she does "figure 8's" in and out between my legs, and finally, sometimes she sits at my feet, reaches out with her front paw, and actually pets the back of MY leg... my calf... very, very softly.  It is her way of asking to be picked up and rocked.  It is quite sweet to watch.  Take care...
