Chip In HeadI have always thought, especially with observing as a Realtor in an intensely people-oriented business like real estate that some of us just need to change our internal programming.

If I can draw the parallel to a machine, the computer, ask yourself this question,

Do You Need To Change Out The Chip In Your Head?

Think how a computer has instructions for its behavior and what it outputs to the world all built in. So the analogy with the human brain is similar to a degree. We act on life from our experience base, our beliefs, our attitudes, our urges, our good and evil sides. Think of ALL this wrapped up into ONE CHIP in us.

I hear all the time self-limiting beliefs about your ability. How much home you can afford. What car to drive. What kind of husband or wife you need in your life. What kind of father or mother you are or should be. The reality for all of us we could change in a moment, IF WE WOULD ONLY CHANGE OUT THAT DARN CHIP. Where's a nearby Radio Shack when you need one???

Potato Head PeopleNext in conjunction with the chip idea, think of yourself as some kind of Mister and Missus Potato Head People. Much of the way we dress, talk, our table manners, our grooming, our hygiene is cultural. Like dressing the external Potato Heads with a moustache or funny ears or bug eyes can be changed by our choices.

So chip for the inside and choices for the outside of us.

Brain Cartoon

This computer comparison to the brain can be taken too far for sure. We all know the brain is much more complex than a mere computer, but the chip idea and your control over it I don't think people grasp the simplicity of that symbol.

Brain Sections

The brain of course has its logical and emotional sections so it is MUCH more complex than a single chip.

Brain of Simpson

The point is even if you don't have the brain of Einstein but you think of yourself more as the brain of Bart Simpson, you can change. You don't have to be the same way your whole life. You don't have to keep telling yourself OVER AND OVER the same messages you are telling yourself. YOU CAN go another direction. Listen to others sometimes and I swear you will think they are broken records. Like, I have always been poor, woe is me, I have always been poor.....BLAH, BLAH, BLAH.

Tomorrow is a new day for your life. Do you need a new chip?

I could use one, perhaps someday this will be common place. Mine feels hardly used sometimes also! My wife would probably pay. ; )

Hi Gary, I love the comic strip.  I actually heard or read something recently so I'm sure it MUST have been true.  It said that there's no way you can change a man, no matter how you try.

So maybe your post is just directed to women??? :)

Hi Gary

I had a meeting with someone last week that could use a chip update.

Good luck and success.

Hi Gary, what a good reminder not to get stuck in the "thinking rut"!  Beliefs are often just that, something believed to be true but when examined closer or even tested, beliefs may turn out to be incorrect.  What a shame it would be to live life based on a wrong belief.  Better to replace that old chip every once in a while!

Gary, I imagine you've seen "What the Bleep Do We Know?"

The human mind is omnipowerful.

Gary - I like the changing out the chip point.  Agents often limit themselves based on their attitude and commitment.  I don't know too many people who succeed when they are wired to only see problems.

Hi Gary, this is a marvelous post and a real "Thinker". I came to the conclusion that my "Chip" is still pretty good and all it is needs is a bit more power resources, then I'm good to go, :-)

Thought provoking post.  I only wish it was as easy as changing a chip when it comes to my thinking!

There is a lot of chip changing that needs to be happening!  People can be so negative.  Hopefully you have opened some eyes to the power of our thoughts, Gary!  Great post, and I love the cartoons you chose!

Gary, You have some phenominal pictures to go with a phenominal post.  My chip has always been just a little "out of whack" and for some reason, I always considered that a good thing :)  * I wnet back to see who won the challange but didn't see a winner yet -- hard decision I'm sure.

Hi Gary, So true that our brains are programmed to our limiting self talk these days.  We are the ones that put these limits upon ourselves, and no one else. You're right, you don't have to keep telling yourselves the same messages over and over again.

These are great analygies Gary! And it makes perfect sense to check both out.  Do we sound professional and do we look professional?

Hi Gary-I will trade you the chip in my head for the chip in mine. On second thought I don't want that chip cause I know what is on it. LOL

Hi Gary Great post and illustrations.  I would like to replace ..the fear of heights chip in my brain..It started on  a high school

trip, at the top of the Washington Monument and continues until today.  Your are so right because as I get older I remind myself of that fear and the fear has become worse. Funny I know the affirmation of fear causes the fear to become powerful but just another mystery of the brain and what we feed it, and how we can be overcome by a continual negative thought.

by changing it out and getting out of your comfort zone -- you might also learn some new things that might be fun.
