Are you the leader in your marketplace? If so, go on to the next blog post, this probably won’t help you. But if you’re not #1 in your market, there are some simple points that can help you get there. Market leaders aren’t born; they’re grown, and they grow by being planted in the right soil and by absorbing the ingredients for abundant growth. Market leaders don’t follow the crowd; they lead, and sometimes into uncharted territory.

Market leaders:

• Understand that life is always difficult for those who only see the difficulties.

• Have written, measureable goals.

• Maintain regular contact with their customers.

• Anticipate their customer’s needs.

• Are obsessed with customer satisfaction.

• Realize that they don’t have all the good ideas, and seek the counsel of others.

• Are knowledgeable and anticipate market changes.

• Are in control of their ego at all times.

• Can get their point across without becoming argumentative.

• Are always aware of what the competition is doing.

• Do not complain about market conditions, but look for new venues for success.

• Understand that it is not failures that bring defeat, but the unwillingness to take risks.

Above all, market leaders are unwilling to accept defeat. Filled with confidence—not arrogance— they are certain in their determination to succeed.

I don't think that this can be underestimated, "Have written, measurable goals."

Any not only having them in writing, but reviewing them often, if not daily.  You need to stay focused on the big picture.

Lot of good points, I dominate the listing sides but not the buyers or the money. It is not that the listings aren't selling either.

Mark - I agree. There's not much use in writing them down if you stick them in a drawer where they're quickly forgotten.

Charles - But you're doing the right things, and moving ahead, I'm sure.

Maria - Thanks for visiting!

Hi John, your last bullet point is something I have to keep reminding myself.

By the way I was around your area not too long ago visiting the very interesting Funk Heritage Museum.

We have too many realtors in too small an area here, all "specializing" in the same thing so it's hard to carve out a market share. Rather than hoping for the best, you have to know what you want, how you plan to get it and then do your best. Your points are simple but so important....just what I needed today. Thanks!

Leslie - I suspect we'll have a significant "pruning" in months to come, but until then, we have to make ourselves stand out by being "outstanding."  Thanks for your comments.

Darrell - That's it. and those who fail to understand will be left behind.
