It was a beautiful Friday afternoon; the start of the relaxing, long Memorial Weekend. Little did I know there was a grandiose idea making the journey from Fargo, to St. Paul. Weeks before, in association with my friend Landon, we began to throw around ideas on ways to market myself and the company I work for online.
There were a few good ideas that came out phone conversations we had previously. We thought of creating a website with helpful information and a place where consumers could contact me. The main thing we lacked was a hook. We needed something different, something that would bring people to the website that may have zero interest in the services I offer. Basically, we wanted to create a way to increase traffic to the website because it could become our best resource to generate new leads and eventually satisfied clients. We believe we found our hook that day, a character we call "Debt Destroyer."
Debt Destroyer is played by me and during the short commercial spots I find myself battling "High-Interest Debt," (HID) in various locations around the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. "HID" is played by a giant foam arrow. It's a more dynamic character than it sounds, after all, you never know when high-interest debt is after you!
The idea to create commercials for the real estate business is nothing new. What is new; however, is the technology and influence available to everyone on the internet through sites like YouTube. If you are active on ActiveRain, no doubt you have at least heard of YouTube.
Many of you may think, "That won't work, how many people that use YouTube would actually be interested in loan and real estate services?" The fact is YouTube is quickly becoming a cultural staple that is not only used by teens but by people of all ages. Of course, marketing on YouTube alone might not generate the business we are looking for but we feel that it will generate traffic to the website that will be created.
I will discuss more about our ideas behind our marketing campaign at the start of the rest of the "Debt Destroyer" creation entries. The rest of this blog is the start of a behind the scenes look at the creation of "Debt Destroyer" eventually ending with the launch of the website and multiple commercial world premieres!
Friday May 25th
Affectionately known as Day -3 in the creation of "Debt Destroyer." Landon arrived late that evening. After hellos, we decided to head to downtown Minneapolis to discuss our course of action and meet a few friends.
We figured that it wouldn't be too difficult to gather the resources we need.
1) Foam, for a giant foam arrow.
2) Spray paint
3) A way to hold the arrow together
4) A couple actors for the filming on Monday
5) A setting
We were kind of lucky in the fact that no one would be around the office for our filming on Monday on account it was a holiday. Well at least we thought we would be.
After making a list of supplies and checking the cameras to make sure they were working and the batteries were charged we decided to call it a night. We wanted to get up early the next morning to begin the creation. Optimism was at an all time high...
