IE6NoMore.com is attempting to organize a movement to finally kill Internet Explorer 6 (which was released in 2001).
IE6NoMore is asking sites to include code that detects the use of IE6 from visitors and encourages them to upgrade to Firefox 3.5, IE8, Safari 4, or Google Chrome. On Tues the movement composed of around a dozen sites, today that number has reached 72 participants.
The motivation for the movement is two fold. 1. Developers have found IE6 very difficult to develop for and accommodate for years and the absence of the outdated browser would make life easier for everyone. On top of this IE6 lacks support for many of the web standards that developers rely upon, and in many cases one of the reasons advancements are slow to take place on the web. 2. If users are utilizing a modern browser their experiences using modern websites will be optimized.
