Chargers for Electric Cars coming to Nashville!

Real Estate Agent with Pilkerton Realtors

Just announced, Chargers for Electric Cars coming to Nashville!

Tennessee

Nissan is working with Arizona based ECOtality Inc. whose subsidiary, Electric Transportation Engineering Corporation has been chosen by the U.S. Department of Transportation to receive $100 million grant. President Jonathan Read said that eTec has a contract with Nissan to provide charging stations for their new electric cars. Nissan is building 5000 electric cars to debut in the fall of 2010.

Other cities in Tennessee to receive the stations are Chattanooga and Knoxville. The grant with other participation will total close to $200 million and will cover 2500 stations in 5 regional market places.  Other cities will include Phoenix, Portland, San Diego, Seattle and others.

Electric CarsChargers for Electric Cars in Nashville and throughout Tennessee will be helped financially as Governor Bredesen has committed $5 million in his 2010 budget for infrastructure. Investing in the future of Tennessee has always been a priority to Gov. Bredesen. "It's also about creating jobs and strengthening our economy" he said.

There will be various models for these stations. Mr. Read said that there will be one that's inexpensive at $1500 which will be free to the public. Then they will also have some that can charge a car in 30 minutes. Though there is a partnership with Nissan, these charging stations will work with any plug in car.

It's nice to see Tennessee up front and center on Environmental issues.

Lou - yes, indeed, you are correct. My only issue is that we burn coal, not clean, to make the electricity.

Connie, that is fantastic.

Do you think it is because the Nissan Plant just located there.

I think electric cars will take off more if there were more stations around town, and free.

Let us know how this innovative program works out.

Connie  I certainly hope electric and natural gas are successful.  Nothing I would like more than to tell the Middle East to drink their oil.  Karen

Connie...how interesting! Here in Midtown there is a design standard to include charging stations in all new construction offices and condominium projects.....and it is ALWAYS WAIVED!

I've often thought, hmmmm, I bet one day we may wish we had those charging stations!

I want a Smart Car....gonna blog about them if I can get the dealer to let me drive one and maybe do an event with one....

Hugs!

Hi Connie!  This is definitely something that I've NEVER thought about!  How fascinating that we could be coming to that--exclusively!  I would love to own one but, they're SO incredibly small that we can only fit one client in it at a time--I guess we could strap the hubby on the back?!

Have a great Sunday...

Missy - Nissan moved their corporate headquarters here. The plant has been here for many years. I think the 5000 cars their building are being built here. I'm not sure though.

Karen - I couldn't agree with you more! I hate that another country/countries can control our life like they do.

Thom - I really believe that they will regret that decision and very soon. Imagine the selling power for all those young people driving them and having a place to plug them in. Priceless. Love your idea about blogging and driving one for free!

Debe - It would be fun to have one to play in. Don't think hubby would like the back. LOL

Kenneth - Most of us do for work anyway.

Connie... Great to see that Nashville is trying to stay out front as a really progressive city.  I think it's been that way since Bredesen was mayor.  Hope they keep up the good work!

Bill - Thank you. I have always liked Bredesen and now the new Mayor Karl Dean is also very good for the city.
