Follow Your Own Heart---Wherever it May Lead

Someone special gave me a plaque not long ago; a plaque with a quote on it.

I wondered if they bought it for me because they felt that’s what I’d done or because they loved the quote. I keep it right in front of me and every day I see it and hope that someday it fits me. Who I was and what I wanted to accomplish.

Even in New York, Feng Shui was not well known at ALL in 1996. I still have many people who ask me what it is. I remember people thinking it had to do with witch craft or something evil. And I remember well the LOOKS I got from people when I did tell them.

My son didn’t tell ANYONE what his mother did until he actually made a friend and found at his mother read books and was very interested in it : ) Otherwise, it was supposed to be a secret.

That is, of course until I decided to put up a website. Even then he didn’t worry very much, computers for many weren’t used all that often.

Times have changed and I hope I’ve been a small part of that change. Looking back to where I once was and looking ahead to the future I only see Feng Shui growing more and more.

The plaque read: “Do not go where the path may lead,

Go instead where there is no path

And leave a trail.”

I think they bought if for you because it defined you, for them. Your description of being in a field that no one understood, and still sticking with it, educating, prodding, and plodding along, growing and sharing along the way, says you at least have some knowledge that this is true of yourself, they just found a way to say it for you! =o)

You're certainly a trailblazer in Feng Shui and in so many more venues as well. In fact, it's the way you conduct your life....I believe that quote struck through to your very soul.
It's always been one of my favourites too.....

Carole, I did that today a few times. There were clear paths, but I decided to go where there was no path. In a couple of places, I wish I hadn't, but I discovered something new - something I had never seen before, even though I've been going to that place for over 20 years).

That's a great quote.

One of my favourites, and one that I was given recently, beautifully framed, and I see almost as soon as I walk in the house:

DANCE as though no one is watching...
SING as though no one is listening...
LOVE as if no one will get hurt...

Beautiful, Carole! I think that we all choose gifts that we relate to the person we are giving them to, so your friend must see you as a trail blazer, and I bet they admire you for it too :)

Cheryl, Plodding was a good word you chose for what I did for so long! It wasn't always easy..and you will run into your share of people who will still look at you oddly when you mention Feng Shui--or have you already? I hope your classes are wonderful....how are they going?

Carole--Lovely quote! Such a good reminder for all of us. It's another way of saying Be Yourself/Set Your Own Course. You have sparked a fire in me to learn more about Feng Shui.

Emerson was the subject of my term paper in high school junior English class. He and William Wordsworth are my favorites. Wordsworth was my term paper for senior English class.
