Established in 1997, the annual Peekskill Celebration is the largest festival in the Hudson Valley, attracting over 30,000 people from the New York City metropolitan area to the shores of the majestic Hudson in mid-summer. Our festivities showcase the City's historic and colorful maritime heritage of the Hudson River discovered in 1409. That's why we are merging with the City's Quadricentennial plans this year and moving to September-for 2009 only-to pay homage to this mighty river. We are going to blend our event management expertise along with the city's ability to handle the logistics of such a large festival and the mutual desire to honor the river and the man who discovered it. Together, we will create an exceptional event that would make Henry Hudson wish he were alive to see it. It will be an extraordinary week: family entertainment, unrivaled fireworks, and colorful Dragon Boat Races of Peekskill Celebration-combined with Quadricentennial tribute-the illumination of historic Peekskill buildings, a downtown concert and a an historic parade led by the Peekskill Fire Department.
