OK, I am going all out showing my first attempt at webcam so go easy on me. I just got my webcam and have not every filmed myself.

I was filmed a lot when I was a young woman as I was a model and actress and I was very used to having my photo taken. But of course, now that I have lost my youthful figure and gained some extra pounds I make it a point to use my Flip Video Camera and film everything and everyone but me.I have not ever filmed myself. So this is a first for me in that regard.

The webcam is a great way to communicate online and I am planning on using it to do a series of videos about the market in Wellington Florida. So I did my first webcam film appearance. This Webcam video is unedited for a more personal touch. I am all about being transparent and authentic.

This is your chance to hear my voice:)

Let me know what you think, but like I said, go easy on me. If you like the video please rate me! Thanks!

I thought you did awesome. You have more guts than me. I havent gathered enough guts to speak on a webcam like that. My non-American accent is too much a give-away.

Katerina:

Great to see what you really look and sound like.  Hope you will do more.  (Get Nestor on there, too.)

Loreena:

There is no such thing as a "non-American" accent.

It's just that some have "non-American" reactions to others.

Katerina:

On second thought, there is something wrong with your video:

I expected pink.

It just took me a minute to notice.

It's a shock to find out you don't wear pink every day.

(It's that pink in your homepage pix that allows me to notice your blog among the many to which I subscribe on AR.)

Webcams are scary things.  One slip and you have to do it over.  I thought you did great. My late mother did live radio for several years in the 1940s - 1960s.  One of the hardest things to do was to get rid of mannerisms.  I know that I have them and have to get rid of them when I teach.  But webcams are scarier than a lecture hall.

I think you did great!  I am extremely camera shy as well and do not like speaking to a large group - give me the small group and I am fine... I know this videoing thing is huge but its just something I cannot see myself doing. At least you have the opportunity as well to erase and redo too if you don't like it unlike a "live" audience.

Katrina,

Great!

I've grown to love You-Tube. My problems are color balance and editing! I can easily edit my audio recordings with "Aduticy" I need a similar intrinsic system for video.

Great job. The only thing I would add is text across the beginning.

Then at the end some scrolling text with your address and phone number, web-site.

Then it would be totally branded.

Wow Katerina!  Your office looks awfully tidy!  I'd have to do one of these at Evers, where the housekeeping is a little tighter than in my home office!

It looks good. Someday, I hope to have the courage to do videos.

Nice, you should spell your web site aloud and slowly; hter are international people who might benefit from this.  You sound natural and inviting!  Now how are you going to display and store these? http://www.buyannarborhomes.com/Ann-Arbor-Video-Library

Keep it up.

Katerina - It's a good start for a video.

Couple of comments - When you repeat your phone number and website, you sound like you are leaving a voicemail or doing a radio ad.  A large number of people won't know how to spell "Nestor" or "Gasset".  I recommend that you add text to your video to show your name, phone number and website.  Some people use a title page for a couple of seconds at the start or end of the video.  I think it is better to have it displayed at the bottom of the video for the entire length of of the video.

Loreena - I live in Toronto, Canada which is one of the most, if not the most, multicultural city in the world.  Although the term "American accent" may exist, there is no one American accent.  Accents tend to be regional in nature.  Native New Yorkers have a very different accent than those raised in the southern states, e.g. Texas.  A large number of people who immigrated to the US and Canada have accents from whereever they were raised.  Some people, from around the world, may attracted to work with you due to your accent.  Others will ignore your accent.

good stuff.  I'm jealous of your success.  I bought one and couldn't (or didn't) figure it out.  thanks for the motivation.

Katerina, good job on your first try. some coments 1. Sounds like you used the built in microphone on the camera..it has an echo effect. Try changing mikes so you don't get the background noise, you will sound much better. 2. Lighting is key, you need more lighting to define you and not the background, experiment a little with some floods. 3. When giving the phone numbers etc. Just make up some signs to hold up for a few seconds for people to write down..it's easy to do. 4. Have a theme for your video..like "tip of the day on selling your home" 5. Practice, practice Keep at it you have a great start!

Thanks for all your critiquing! I know there is a lot more that I should be doing and can be doing but I knew that if I took too much time I would just never start.

This was with NO editing, no repeating, just raw video. I wanted to be as natural as possible but also needed to just DO IT!

If I fool with editing and all that, I will get frustrated and just NOT move forward, like being frozen.

So this is the starting point and we will move on from here.

I also wanted to see how easy it was like this webcam said it would be, and it was. It was all one click to video, one click to replay and one click to load to youtube. I was testing the ease of using this webcam, I bought the best reviewed one that online marketers say is the best; LOGITECH QuickCam Pro 9000.

Missy- I know that I should add the text, make it more marketing type but I did not want to learn how to do that in this program since the webcam is brand new and I am just learning how to do it.

But you made me think of a way that I could do this, I could maybe share my computer through teamview and have my VA do the text additions and such, or maybe he could take it from youtube and edit it in youtube. I noticed last night that youtube has a video editing section in our profile area.

Loreena- That is what will make you look authentic! Never let your accent hold you back. You accent is not so strong that people would not be able to understand you. I understand you just fine when we speak on the phone and when you speak in my SEO webinar.

Besides, you are Asian and I expect you to speak with a slight accent of an Asian descent and I would be very proud of that if I were Asian! And if people respond with stereotypes or certain expectations than you will just crush those or magnify them, either way, people will work with those they know, like and trust! And people like to work with smart people and you are smart and they know that. So Go for it Girl!

Brad- Now this was stepping our of my comfort zone and I did it. That is why I just rushed to get it up online before I changed my mind! I made some slips in speach but if I kept redoing it, it would sound phoney and I was looking for natural not scripted.

I love speaking to audiences in person, the bigger the better for me! But I don't like one on one stuff.

Katerina- for a first time video, unedited, i thought it went well.  I might "stage" it so that the viewer isn't looking around the room at your office while you talk.  I liked matching an actual voice to the photo that we see on your blog.  Can't wait til the next one!

John- Thanks for the encouragement. I love to talk in front of people so I just need to pretend I am when I am working with the webcam. I had to get that online raw and unedited or else I would seek to perfect it and never get it on.

Ruthmarie- Yeah, I tend to close my eyes when I am talking. I also move one side of my mouth up more than the other when I am talking, I hate that, it looks like I have something wrong with my jaw. I love to speak in front of groups. Speaking has always been my second passion after writing. When I was a kid in school I would ask the teachers how many oral book reports or country reports or whatever could I do each week! And they always encouraged me which is why I think I kept my passion for speaking. Now webcam is a totally different thing than speaking on a stage! Funny how that was scary.

Jennifer- I like being behind the camera now that I am overweight. But once this weight is off I will be in front and center of the camera all the time! Now I have to prepare my hair, makeup and clothing to at least hide my fat ;)

Frank- Thanks for your kind support. Yes, it is just the beginning. I like the unedited video better because you get what you see. It is not scripted. I like that natural feeling and I hope that I can keep that going.

Kathy- I like how you stored the videos on your website. I will do the same too, I will add that to the VA's list to do. I am currently just starting and having them all hosted on youtube. I know, I thought about spelling the name and the website and also adding it in text but I then said, heck, I am just using this the way it is or else I will never get it online. I can always go back and add the text, etc and also make a link on the video that brings them to our website. Lots to do!

Marc- Thanks for all of those tips! I know there is alot to do to really make this work. I did not want to get into adding anything right then because I get frustrated easily with editing and then I just won't do it. So as I learn and add the text and I thought to add a clickable link to the video also that goes to our website. First try to just get the courage to hit the upload to youtube button!

Lowell- Thanks for all your tips too! Lots to do! I intentionally did not want to look very professional but rather approachable.

I did this one Flip video tour of the Aeroclub in our town, and I made mistakes in my speach, I said some things that Nestor thought were very unprofessional and yet, that small video inspired a buyer to call us who bought a 1.7 million dollar house in the Aeroclub with all cash and closed in 2.5 weeks. He said he loved how natural it was! Who would have thought???

Barbara- It took me buying that webcam and Nestor teasing me with: is this another one of your tech tools you are buying but not going to use? LOL!

Thank you. I went to broadcasting school for like  6 weeks before changing my mind and staying with modeling when I was like really young, many moons ago. :)

I was thinking of doing some weekly series type webcam segments but I don't want to spend time editing. I am thinking of letting everyone know before they watch that they are uncut and unedited:)

Yes you can add title tags in YouTube.

They don't link out like Mixpo but the consumer can read them, while you are speaking.

We need to have a Ichat with our video cams, on skype. That is as brave as I am at this point.

Katerina - I think you did great!

One improvement you can do is adding quick subtitles to your video (your phone # or web address) so that people can quickly take a look.  See an example below. It's a video I literally created in 15 minutes....after Frank LLosa won an Inman Award.

http://www.tinyurl.com/inman-winner

If you want, you can send me the video and I'll even do the quick sub-titles for you....No charge of course.
