Twitter Friend of the Week

I absolutely love the idea of promoting one another when we can! As a result, I have a project called "Twitter Friend of the Week." Each week, I'll showcase one or two of my Twitter Friends so that you can "meet" them.

This week, my featured Twitter Friend is Brad Bechler author of ”When Will The Sky Fall”. Here's what Brad had to tell us:

What is your primary business?
I’m an Author/Writer of various genres, namely Fiction, Poetry. My new and current release is, “When Will The Sky Fall?” It is about my experience with Hurricane Katrina. As a Survivor, I write about the shock, fear, loss, anger, isolation, and restoration. I’m also a Ghost Writer for Select Clients, Motivational Speaker, and Life Coach.

What is unique about you or your business?
I travel extensively and place myself in positions of research in order to bring life to my writings.

What is one fun thing about yourself that most of us don't know?
I love to watch birds and act like a kid at Disney World every week when I visit.

Do you work from home or an outside office?
My office is usually in coffee shops, bookstores, Whole Foods Markets, Beaches, and at a Disney World Resort.

What is your favorite computer application?
GreaseMonkey

What is your favorite food?
Sushi, Mama’s Pancakes from Cracker Barrel, and Fresh Pan-fried, broiled, or stuffed Grouper

If you could be a super hero, what would you be called and what would your super powers be?
The Element. My powers would be to possess the element of fire, water, wind that can be used where needed for balance.

What one piece of advice would you give someone who wants to get into your line of business?
Write what you know and have passion about, not just the flavor of the day. Be prepared for rejection, but giving up is not an option. Align yourself with others who love the art of writing.

What is the follow link for one of yourTwitter Friends who you think everyone would benefit from following and why should we follow them?
@EdWorksAcademy

As you can see, Brad is extremely intriguing. As a Hurricane Katrina survivor, you really do want to check him out! Follow Brad on Twitter at @bradbechler.

Good idea. I enjoyed reading that. I have a question for you, Renae. I'm trying to sort through twitter...do you recommend being friends with other agents or should you limit it to friends and consumers?

Thanks,

Michael Caruso

Hi there, Michael. I highly recommend becoming friends with other agents - both within your local area and outside of it.  Why?  Because not only could they become sources for referrals down the road but you could develop some great groups of folks to help you build your business (and you theirs)!

Hi Renae, I enjoyed reading about Brad.  I have all these people following me on twitter and I have no idea who they are.  (I seldom even check out twitter comments.)  Do you delete people if you don't know them?

Hi Shirley!  I never delete followers on Twitter just because I don't know them.  If they spam me, I delete them.  If they send out messages that I don't agree with or that I don't want to be associated with, I delete them.  Otherwise, you just never know who your next client might be - typically someone you don't already know!

It was indeed a pleasure to be featured as a "Friend of the Week" on your Blog.  As we approach another milestone in our Nation's History (Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina (Aug. 29)), there exists even more reasons for us to join together to build more Social ties.  In keeping with the Founding Fathers dream to have One Nation of the God, we must do more to extend a helping hand where necessary.  As a survivor of this epic storm, I discovered many differnet facets and layers of Human Suffering.  What they all share in common is an inherent spirit of Restoration, and subtle grayness.  If we strive to live in a colorless world, the impact of great loss and upheavels are better tolerated and appreciated.

Please do your part in helping those less fortunate.

I have been following Mr. Bechler quite frequently on Twitter and have managed to attend one of his Book Signings in Preoria.  I was astounded by not only his story, but this young man's vision and passion for simple folk like my self.  I don't want to date myself, but his style of writing resembles the writings of my hero's such as Melvin Tolson, Chester Himes, James Baldwin, Ralph Ellison.  The young kids writing now just don't seem to have the deep below the surface thinking as this young writer does.  I guess he is before his time.  I appreciate how he tells a story and ties it into everyday life.  Having lived in Harlem and the South Side of Chicago, I've seen how our blackness has become even blacker, more closer to darkness.  His book gives us the missing light we need today.  Just the thoughts of one reader.  These days, reading is much of my day.  As a former Educator, I know the power of the written word.

Just dropping a note to say that I have learned more about myself from Mr. Bechler from his fire and passion than I have learned from my spouse and pastor of 22 years.  Not putting them down, but sometimes you must look on the outside of the chaos in your life to find joy.  His book gave me joy, and I thank him.  He is my Friend of the Week and Friend in Christ.

I listened to Brad on last night during his appearance on a Radio show, and I must tell you that I became a new fan of this man, this gifted man of God.  I must admit, when I read he loves Sushi, I fell in love.  Not a groupie, but glad to meet a real man who takes chances.  lol.

Sushi?  Brad?  I never knew that.  Don't dig the stuff.  Still a neck bone kind of guy.  But, much love to his writing and super things he's doing in a super way.

Big ups to you.  Yezir.

Just got this tweet in my list of previous tweets on TweetDeck.  Now, I know a little more about the Author.  I am so inspired by his words of "Never Giving Up".  Yea, I know, you've heard it all before, but for some reason, it is sticking when it comes from him.  Just ordered my second copy of the book from Amazon for my daughter and her friend.  I'm sure they will love it.  I'm proud to say I met this decent human being.  Keep on keeping on brother man.

We are sending invites to Mr. Bechler wherever possible to be at an event in New Orleans on Aug. 27 for a screening event of a documentary filim on Levees.  He can register for the event at the following site:

Very informal event with cocktails, bites, and networking.  Mr. Bechler, if you see this, please consider attending.  We understand you will be at Rising Tide.  See ya there, if you can make it.
