An Evening With Gavin Mudd: In-Situ Uranium Mining; Myth versus Fact (August 18th)

 

Gavin Mudd, PhD, is an internationally known and respected expert on the environmental impacts and management of mining, particularly In Situ Leaching (ISL) uranium mining. He has traveled from his native Australia to share his expertise on this controversial subject. His talk will be held on Tuesday, August 18th at 7:00PM at the Fort Collins Senior Center (1200 Raintree Drive).

 

League of Women Voters of Larimer County Oppose Uranium Mine Near Nunn

 

July 27, 2009. The League of Women Voters (LWV) of the United States has a long history of fighting the pollution of natural resources in the interest of protecting the environment and public health. The LWV of Colorado has positions on both hazardous and radioactive materials and the wise and balanced use of water resources in Colorado. The League's position is that activities involving hazardous and radioactive materials should not take place in areas that supply drinking water, such as sole source aquifers, or in areas with significant renewable resource value, such as prime agricultural lands, aquifers, and significant grazing and forest lands.

Flashfloods Not Uncommon on Proposed Uranium Mining Site

On June 22nd, 2009 a severe evening thunderstorm set off tornado warnings in Larimer and Weld Counties. A tornado touched down four miles west of Pierce and tornado sirens went off in Nunn an hour later. Four inches of rain fell in Laporte, 3 inches in northern Fort Collins, and over 2 in Wellington. That storm system hit Jay and Robin Davis' home near Nunn at the base of Antelope Hill about 9pm, near where Powertech Uranium hopes to operate an in situ leach uranium mine.

Powertech Pursuing More Land in Weld County

 

July 9, 2009. Powertech announced that it has entered into two option agreements for the purchase of an aggregate of 3,585 acres of land, together with the associated water, mineral and lease interests, in Weld County, Colorado. The optioned properties are adjacent to the existing northern portion of the Company's Centennial Project.
