The Breaking News Network was awarded Most Innovative Media 2009 by Inman News last Friday.

inman_innovator_awards

Everybody has been asking us - why is the Breaking News Network innovative?

  1. Breaking News sites like Breaking San Francisco News aggregate the best Twitter feeds in a city. They filter the Twitter experience for the local consumer so they're not seeing the noise. These sites are powerful viral marketing vehicles - Twitter feeds @BreakingSFNews, @BreakingLANews and @BreakingNYCNews all have grown organically to over 2,200-2,500 followers in less than 3 months
  2. The Breaking News Network's grass roots application design makes it a unique media model. We give the template away to media/publishing companies and real estate brokerages and agents, who then build a Breaking News site in 3-5 hours. And they OWN the sites; it's on the Wordpress platform so it's easily accessible to non-programmers and customizable to the market.  Once up, that real estate brokerage/agent or media company provides a community service and instantly becomes the hub of their Twitter community in their city.
  3. In three months, the Breaking News Network already covers over 100 cities. As the Breaking News Network expands to cover every city in America (as well as overseas), the network begins to look like the Craigslist for Twitter feeds. We plan to overlay new business models across this network.

We're continuing to develop Breaking News sites and offer the opportunity to Active Rain members for your city. We're allocating only one per city, so if you're interested, please contact me on Active Rain. We select those who understand the power of virally connecting to their community for developing their business.

Hey Pat.  Congrats on your award!!!!!  I know you and Kevin have worked so hard helping your Breaking News Network get started.  I really appreciate all you all have done to help me and I look forward to continuing with other business models with Domus Consulting Group.

Well deserved. Kevin put me in touch with someone today to help me get mine set up. Been too busy to do it.

This is sooooooo exciting.

(Sorry, sometimes I masquerade as other profiles on AR)

Pat,

Congratulations! This is certainly a well deserved award and agents that are using twitter already would be crazy not to contact you and discuss getting on board for their city.

The idea of being the hub for emerging news in your city is a fantastic marketing opportunity and great way for an agent to connect with an up and coming generation that increasingly goes online to find out what is happening locally. Well thought out and based all the feedback I have heard from those participating already, well designed and implemented as well!

Well deserved Congratulations, Pat & Kevin!

I consider myself extremely fortunate to be a member of the Breaking News family. What started with one individual site that I was excited to do, but apprehensive about has turned into 21 sites in the Phoenix metro area. I'm proud to say that my broker had the vision to run with the concept. Jonovich & Associates is the host for PhxHousingNews as our brokerage site. We also have 21 individual stand alone sites for communities in the greater Phoenix area.

We are currently working on getting all of our agents Tweeting about real estate and promoting the communities where they work. It's a win-win situation for all involved.

We're working on getting all of the sites really developed and broadening our base of RELEVANT Twitter followers. We have great plans for continuing to develop that presence once we get the groundwork securely in place.

Thank you so very much for the opportunity to help promote our agents while we promote the communities in our area. The possibilities are INCREDIBLE!!

And to think that 4 short months ago, I had NO idea how to use Twitter or any of the other social media.

You guys totally ROCK!!

Thanks so much Bob and Brad for props. Active Rain will always be on top of mind with the Breaking News Network participants and we're looking forward to finding new ways to work together.

Cathey, you're the architect of PHX Housing News. Note that it's still a site in progress, but we look forward to get rolling with it with full agent participation chronicling the PHX market. This is a different Breaking News model that will elevate your brokerage through all the communities in Phoenix Metro. We invite brokerages in other cities to watch what we're doing...

Missy & Susan, we appreciate your support. One new business model associated with Breaking News is content-for-hire. We now know several folks who can support one or multiple Breaking News sites in a city or metro area.

Yep Joe, today was a post-Inman catchup day... will speak with you later this week...

Pat,

It was great to see how far you have come at Domus, from attending a blogging workshop at CAR some years ago, to moving "beyond blogging" now. Enjoyed being at Inman to see you receive your well-deserved award, and speaking with you afterwards about a breaking news presence for Berkeley. Look forward to working with you very soon, and sharing exciting news from our micro markets!

Cathy helped me and I am up and running. Will start promoting this week. 8 hours in the car tomorrow, I will tweet quite a bit and get some Ann Arbor folks on there.

Thanks to Kevin for putting me in touch with her.

I love all the innovation, just was too busy to set it up.

Here is my site.

Now to get businesses, Wolverines, Real Estate, food, events about Ann Arbor in there.

Excited !!!

Cool Missy! as of 11:20pm EDT, your site A2BreakingNews.com is not yet set up, but all it needs are the Twitter and RSS feeds... once someone like Cathy has put together one Breaking News site, it takes just 3-4 hours, including Twitter feed research, to do the next one.

Arlene, you'll see an email from me soon, as well as Brian and David... almost everybody doesn't see the utility of Twitter as a broadcast media at first (think of a Twitter feed as a personal text-based radio station), because they see a noisy chaotic chat box. We at Domus show you exactly how to use Twitter - download our Local Business Owner's Guide to Twitter.

Pat, have you set one up for Fairfax county or Loudoun County Virginia?  If not, put me on the list.

Hi Pat,

I enjoyed speaking with you after your seesion at Real Estate Connect, and congratulations on your Innovator Award.  Although I'm late to the game of Online Marketing, I'm passionate about learning and  getting up to speed. Consider me a "technophile wanna be".   I'm on vacation this week with my family.  But, let's meet  next week to get myself started with Breaking News and bring me to the 21st century!

Pat

Congratulations. Wish I could have been there to see the award in person. I'm not surprised. I'm pleased to be part of the BreakingNewsNetwork with my 3 sites (Carlsbad, Oceanside and Encinitas) currently up and running and one more in the works.

I'm looking forward to getting the respective Chambers more involved - it's taking time to get to that point.

Pat - Congrats !  Another great milestone and awesome success with Breaking News !  I have seen these Twitter accounts and have been very impressed.  How do you go through all those news stories ?  Would be interested in doing something in Philadelphia but not sure where to begin.

Pat:  Is the Lake Norman NC area still available?  We are in the greater Charlotte area but my main towns are Mooresville, Davidson, Cornelius, Huntersville, Troutman, Sherrills Ford.  If I have to narrow it down:  Mooresville, Davidson, Cornelius and Huntersville would be awesome.  I need to learn more too!  Let me know!
