How can I turn my turn my closet into a Job Stimulus Program?
Unemployment rates are still high even though there was a slight decline in July. Too ofetn most people look to the government to solve the problem, but did you know that many charities are devoted to helping the unemployed and under-employed get back into the workforce. St. Martin Center and Mercy Center for Women both in Erie, PA provide their clients with proper attire to wear to job interviews and/or attire for their new job. We, as individuals, can do our part, too.
How?
End your closet clutter . . . DONATE
Starting with my own closet I am sure that most of us would find quite a few unworn items that could be donated to local charities thus stimulating the rebirth of our economy. What's needed?
Clothing, shoes, toiletries
Let's get them off on the right foot!
- Slightly or gently worn items, clean, too!
- Business casual: polo shirts, khakis, dressy jeans, nursing scrubs
- Work clothes including jackets, work boots & steel toed shoes
- Professional attire: collared shirts, ties, jackets, dress pants, suits, skirts
- New underwear, socks, nylons
Goodwill Industries operates in many communities throughout the United States referring to themselves as the Hand Up People rather than Hand-out. They provide job training and proper attire for the work place. Goodwill also provide jobs for the unemployed in their facilities collecting, sorting, mending and reselling donations.
Turn your closet into Job Stimuli for your area.

I'm all for helping folks with proper attire for job interviews. Unfortunately, this doesn't stimulate any increase in actual jobs...
