Here's the description that I wrote for this newly listed house as I inserted it into realtor.com. It's listed for $69,000. I was putting the listing into realtor.com and it was shot back to me. Two times! I thought they'd made a mistake. They refused to accept this description and said it was a possible violation of the Fair Housing Act.

Somebody worked really hard on this house in Kensett Arkansas. They painted the large rooms pretty colors, made a new kitchen, added a bath, added central heat and air, covered with siding and added lots of closet space. You could move in with almost no work required. A roomy 1954 sq. ft. That's $35.31 per sq. ft!! Wow!

That was my description for my new listing at Kensett Arkansas.
I'd like for you to read this description and tell me what's wrong with it. You'll be just as amazed as I was.
Just for the fun of it, I'd like to see if you can figure it out!!

Okay, here's how I had to rewrite it.

They rejected "hard on." Geeeeeeeshhhhh................I still don't get it.....
144 Comments on Realtor.com will not allow anything that appears to violate the Fair Housing Act and that's a good thing. But....what's wrong with this?
Barbara, this says more about the mindset of the people on R.com than about your ad!!
Brian, realtor.com is like an over-protective parent. Perhaps they've had a law-suit or two that makes them fear various words.
Hi Barbara. Glad to see this featured. Realtor.com can be odd like that.
Barbara, I believe this is what happens when we remove actual humans from the equation and things are taken out of context. While reading your post, I'm sure most of us saw it as innocently as you did and were perplexed. Fun post!
Welllll, he is #122 I am #123 and YOU are #124, so you should be able to find it without working too hard. Need sound effects of laughter here. Ms. Kate
PS You are responsible for me sticking my foot in my mouth today referring to this/ What I said sounded ummmmm shall we say out of character for me....
Lana, thanks!
Risa, thanks for joining in the fun.
Kate, in which one did you stick your foot in your mouth. You must have said something racey and I'm too tired to go back and find it.
Barbara... where did you loose control of your post... lol Looks like Reator.com was the cause..:)
Lots of great comments
Barbara,
I am glad you told us and put us out of our misery. I never would have gotten it.
If that is against Fair Housing I wonder which section.
Barbara,
Just be glad you don't cover Sussex County - computer filters often flag my turf!
Roland, the blog did sorta become the basis for a lot of joking. I hope everyone had fun.
Brenda, seems as if the experts think it was a violation of profanity, not Fair Housing, but Fair Housing was the warning I got.
Irene, ok!! I just now got it! I had to reread and see the bold lettering!! A name change may be needed!!
Isn't it great that we have the cyber police to protect us from ourselves? My only question is what do they think the phrase "hard on" has to be with fair housing? Funny post. Thank you, Barbara.
Barbara--not joking. It's in Amish country. Note that Intercourse is near Paradise. :)
Claudette, thanks for your comment. I'm still trying to figure it out myself.
Erica, you have a blog in your back yard! Run with it. The rain-guys will love it!
And to think, this is in the heart of AMISH country. There are other good ones in the area too: Bird-In-Hand.
Erica, the Amish don't understand double-meanings so they wouldn't understand. There is no double meaning in bird-in-hand.....is there??
Barbara--I have no clue what you are talking about
Ha!
Barbara, Ms. Barbara,
You started a trend on AR with this blog and may be subject to penalties. The Nat'l Enq wishes to interview you.
Ms. Kate
Barbara - I can only imagine how confused you must have been the second time it was kicked back to you. Then to finally get the explanation - I would have been roaring with laughter. Thanks for sharing how rigid and absurd some rules can be. Keep laughing!
Someone with too much time on there hands -
Kathie, I was frustrated, thinking they were making mistakes and keeping me from finishing my chore.
Charlene, I think they were overly zealous.
