Voted Best Pizza 2009 in Coeur d'Alene by 7000 true-blue pizza lovers, Valentino's is an eatery you just HAVE to experience!
A real mom & pop operation, Candy Taranto is mom and Charlie Taranto is pop. They have operated Valentino's locally with a Tuscan cafe theme for the past six years, on the pad in front of Target between Government Way and I-95.
Candy and Charlie started Valentino's Pizza in Santa Barbara, California in 1981. They operated 4 award winning restaurants there, and were the pioneers of the take & bake pizza concept in Southern California. When they relocated and opened Valentino's Pizza in Coeur d'Alene, they added hot baked pizza, and pizza by the slice to their long-time featured take & bake variety. A new twist for them, they also added a full smoothie operation, where they serve up fruit filled smoothies to rival the smoothie specialty shops. Personally, I love popping in at lunch time for a piece of Mediterranean pizza by the slice. It just doesn't get any better!
As well as serving hands down the best pizza in Coeur d'alene, Valentino's Pizza is gaining in fame for its second-to-none sub sandwiches. Charlie acquired the recipes and know-how for world class subs from a guy in Philly. But the recipes for their pizza sauce and dough go all the way back to Charlie's father in the early 1950's. His father was Chicago's frozen pizza pioneer. Did I mention that they make their sauce, Italian dressing and dough fresh, from scratch, from old family recipes, with their own two hands, EVERY DAY? No wonder Valentino's Pizza slammed the competition to win the bragging rights for The Best Pizza in Coeur d'Alene!
If you haven't experienced Valentino's Pizza yet, make a point to stop in. Whatever you order, prepare to have your expectations exceeded! And when you do, tell them Janna sent you!
