Real estate is hard and the market is not letting up. With more than 10,000,000 people out of work, why would anyone want to quit working in a business that is rebounding and a market that is poised to make a lot of people, a lot of money in the near future. Defining near future may be a bit harder.

The world of home buying, home selling, commercial real estate and corporate real estate is not an easy one. No matter the change in the financial outlook of the world, the real estate market will feel that change and adjust to that change. Kind of like a very sensitive roller coaster, real estate ebbs and moves through life just like the rest of us. Is there a potential to make money? Yes! Is there a guaranteed salary? No! But is that not the reason many of us chose this career in the first place.

What Does Money Loss Teach the Real Estate Agent Who Wants to Quit?

Before the downturn in the real estate market, there was a lot of money in moving homes and commercial real estate. The real estate agent personalized their license plates and bragged about the career choice they had made. Life was great. But now, the times are harder and many real estate agents are leaving the practice because homes just are not selling. There is knowledge to be gained and experience that could prove life changing in a faltering real estate market.

Save 10% of the Commission - Every commission you make needs to be split 90/10. At least 10% of the commission needs to be placed in savings.

Learn More Today to Earn More Tomorrow - Just because selling real estate is what you want to do does not mean you cannot teach a class or two on business at the local college. Teaching certificates are easy to achieve and teachers have not been laid off during the recession.

Buck Up and Force Through the Market - This is not the first time the real estate market has dipped and it will not be the last. When real estate is not the most popular investment, we need to stick it out and settle in for the long haul. That does not mean we stop working, but it does mean we accept the fact that these recessions are going to happen from time to time and it is NOT a reason to quit.

I heard in Florida, from the news that 20% or agents have left the biz or gone inactive.  Some just like to ride the gravy train and will join up again.  There are also classes gradualting new agents daily.  So the profession is in a state of flux.  Everything will change because the internet is not the end it is the beginning, who really knows what is next in technology and that will affect us all.

I agree with you completelyt. Hey, just like everything in life, the economy goes in cycles. Right now we are in the downturn of the cycle. If as an agent you are expecting the economy to pull you out and save your career, well unless you live in the very few up and coming areas - you will be waiting for a long time. Those of us that treat this like a business, and have multiple lead sources will surivive and thrive.

I love it when I hear loan officers quitting  -- it just means more market share for me...I'm sure it's the same for Realtors.

There are still plenty of agents that are active and not making any money.  Most agents don't know how to run a business and fail
