Fresh Seafood - Isle of Palms SC - Simmons Seafood

When Boyd & I moved to Mt Pleasant SC in 1970, one of the first things we would ask the locals was "where can we find really good fresh seafood?". The answer was Simmons Seafood.

Simmons Seafood was founded in 1947 by Ella & Hugh Simmons
which would later be taken over by their 2 sons (William & Hugh (Red).  The business started out with Ella & Hugh having a small shrimp boat and a worn building on Shem Creek.

1955 Ella & Hugh built their first retail outlet on Ben Sawyer Blvd. and 1972 rebuilt on the same location with a larger store front. AT this time, William and Red had separated their talents with William running the retail outlet and Red servicing the shrimp trade on Shem Creek.

simmons catering1986 William's son, Bubba, joined the business and assisted with creating the now famous Key Lime Pie at Simmons Seafood and the catering business.

I can speak from experience ---if you want the freshest and highest quality seafood, you must go to Simmons Seafood.

Also, I can speak from experience --- if you want the best oyster roast catered, you must call Simmons Seafood --- they do an incredible job!!!

When you go to pick up your seafood, you have just got to try the famous Key Lime Pie --- it melts in your mouth.  They  have of course, fresh shrimp, oysters, all types of local fish, and also have in the shop:

  • Crab Stuffed Flounder
  • Deviled Crabs
  • Charleston Red Rice
  • Garlic Cheese Grits
  • 50 lbs. bags of ice
  • Our "Famous" Key Lime Pie (made by our catering specialist)
  • Carolina  Shrimp Dip
  • Fresh Lobster

1993 Bubba opened the Isle of Palms shop which is currently the only retail shop open.

Now this is my kind of place Liz, I love seafood with a passion. Of course, I have always loved the I.O.P. as well so when we combine the two I think we have a winner.

Hi Liz!

MMMMMMMMMM, I am a seafood fanatic! I love seafood, and I live in Utah, so I don't get much of it. This place looks fantastic, you are so lucky to live so close to fresh seafood. :) Yumm!

Liz,

I used to live in Charleston and went to a seafood shack on Bowen's Island...Do you know where that is and is it still open..

Some of the best seafood that I have ever eaten..

This was 40 years ago..

Years ago my husband use to do lots of offshore fishing and was filling our freezers abundantly. He bought a commercial license and sold/traded excess to Simmons. I know for a fact it was fresh.
