NEW PHOTOGRAPHER IN LOUDOUN COUNTY, VIRGINIA - WAS IT A SIGN?
I HAVE A NEW NEIGHBOR. A short while ago, a new family occupied a farm house just a few properties down the road from my home. A few weeks ago I noticed that on the side of one of the vehicles, there was a business sign. I couldn't quite read the lettering because I was driving by their driveway. Then last week, I noticed that the sign was advertising a photographer.
I TOOK THAT AS A SIGN!
Now, that wasn't the first sign, it was the second sign. Not that I'm superstitious, mind you. It's just that, for the first time in over 20 years I had a professional hair dresser cut and style my hair, now a photographer moves in 3 doors down from me????
WOULDN'T YOU TAKE THAT AS A SIGN??
Monday, while driving by, I noticed a gentleman doing some yard work on that property. I stopped, introduced myself as a neighbor and verified that he was the photpgrapher. He was a very friendly fellow and I asked the big question.
Do you do portraits?
SURE, he said, and he said it with a confident and friendly smile that made me believe that I made the right decision. Best part, he could take the photos at my home. Of course, I made it clear that I would want him to use a "Loretta Young" filter. You know, the one that the camera man always used in the movies showing Loretta Young in a soft light at angles that showed the fewest wrinkles? Come on, you know what I mean.
Steve arrived at my home yesterday with camera, lights, and other equipment that I couldn't identify but that put me in a soft light. I believe it was the Loretta Young filter. About an hour and three wardrobe changes later we had about 100 photos to work with. After selecting several that stood out and were as good as you're going to get of Lenn we edited a couple for use on web sites and blogs.
I can now retire the old photo. I now have three current photos so that, when I meet someone in person, they'll recognize me from the web site. Success.
