For a small city of about 75,000 residents, Danbury does offer a large variety of culinary choices.You are only a few minutes from a restaurant almost anywhere in Danbury's 40 square mile area. The city has the typically changes found across the country, including Applebees, Chili's, Outback Steakhouse, Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Subway, Wendy's & McDonald's. However, the majority of restaurant's are locally owned & operated.  There are plenty of locally owned Italian & Chinese restaurants to be tried. There are a few Indian & Asian restaurants, including Bombay (Pembroke Road), Koo (corner of East Pembroke & Hayestown Rd) & Pho Vietnam (Padanaram Road). There are at least 3 middle eastern restaurants, Hannah's (located along Lake Avenue), Vivianne's (on Tamarack Ave), and Sesame Seed (on West Wooster Street). Unique eateries include the Goulash Place (Highland Avenue) cooks up Hungarian food, Roma's (Mill Plain Road) makes great sandwiches and  Green Island Chicken & Grill (White Street) is the place in town if you want Jamacian food. There are also a couple of Portuguese & Brazilian bakeries found along Main Street. High end dining includes Cafe on the Green (on Aunt Hack Road), Ondine (Pembroke Road), Barca (Mill Plain Road) and Kabucki Japanesse Steakhouse (on Mill Plain Road).
