Thanks for the Memories! Les Paul 1915 - 2009

I grew up in the 60's, and music is a huge part of my life.  First  it was the Stones with Keith Richards, then the Yarbirds and Cream, with Eric Clapton playing guitar and Led Zepplin, with Jimmy Page playing guitar(also with the Yardbirds), the list goes on...Jeff Beck (on his own but first with the Yardbirds) and Al DiMeola, Frank Zappa and BB King.  They had one thing in common, great guitar sounds from a Les Paul guitar!

Take a moment to check out BB King and Les Paul in 1988!

.  .

While Les Paul did more than develop a great sounding electric guitar, he was also a performer and inventor.  He'll be missed.  As Keith Richards once said of Les Paul, "generations of flash little punks like us would be in jail or cleaning toilets!"

Thanks Les Paul for your early recordings with wife Mary Ford, multi track recording, and oh yea, ROCK N ROLL!

Morning Laura,

I too grew up with music in my ear and Les Paul and Mary Ford were among them. I had no idea he was in his 90's. Does that make us OLD?

Thanks for the post.

Laura, Les Paul was a genius. His over dubbing of sound tracks revolutionized the recording industry. His invention of the solid body guitar changed the guitar forever. He will be missed.

It is amazing to me to see how many 12 year olds know him and it is a good thing.

When I heard the news, I broke out my Gibson Les Paul and just looked at it. I couldn't even bring myself to play. This is truly sad news. Les Paul will be missed.

Thanks for the tribute - it is so deserving.  A dear friend of mine had a trio that had to break up when member Mary Ford married Les oh, so many years ago.

Today is a very sad day for music. He was a great man and changed music as we know it. I could not imagine my life without the soundtrack this creative man made possible. I was going to blog on this but you did such a fine job I can't top this! Betina

Without a doubt Les Paul changed music forever with his invention of the electric guitar. Think of all the greats that wouldn't have been as great without him.

Laura - I remember seeing him and Mary Ford on the Arthur Godfrey show when I was a little kid. This isn't from Arthur Godfrey, but, it is still a great version of How High the Moon.
