Ask Your Broker - They Can Help YOU Inc.
This past week, a number of agents have been talking to me about what's going on in their lives. Mostly 
it's about their lack of business. And of course after we talk about 'going back to basics' and getting past that hurdle, I bring out the big question:
Who is the one person that is always with you?
No, I don't want to hear your spouse, partner, child or friend's name. Who is always with you? Right - you've got it - it's YOU Inc. So you've got YOU running around in your head all day long and all night long, right? What is YOU telling YOU? Ok ... you've at least got to laugh at that question, it sounds so silly!
I mean come on, here's your chance to get real and notice what you're telling yourself. I normally wait a bit and just listen to what they're telling me (and YOU inc). And then I ask them more questions about whatever it is that is coming up for them. It's a gentle back-and-forth chat over a cup of coffee. Nothing intimidating, nothing scary.
I find that it usually takes a few trys and going a little deeper to discover what YOU Inc. is attempting to screw up. Our subconscious wants to hang onto stuff, be stubborn, be right about whatever story YOU Inc. needs to hang onto in order to save face. If you're following this, I'm sure you're relating to it. Really - we're all human and it's what we do - all of us!
Often, what I hear is that YOU Inc. is suggesting that sales are slow, that you never finish what you start, that you're always late, that you're lazy, that you're mad at the economic situation around the world, that you're just not good enough ... that ______________________ (fill in the blank). And for those of you reading this for the first time, I'm sure YOU Inc. will fill in the blank if you just ask!
OK, so if that's true - how is it that you've been so successful before? When you're successful, what does YOU Inc. tell yourself? Ohhhhh. Really? So YOU Inc. says what?
So what I hear is that YOU Inc. clearly tells you that you're really good at working with people and building relationships, that you're always a few steps ahead of what needs to be accomplished, that you're focused on what you can create now, and that you're happy and enjoying your profession.
At this point, I usually see the 'light bulb' look on their face. OMG, I did it to myself again! I started thinking all kinds of crazy stuff that wasn't true, and lo and behold - that's exactly what showed up. Isn't that special? (LOL) And yes, by now they're usually feeling a little lighter, smiling and joking around a bit.
I mean, really, folks - who hasn't been down this road a few times (OK, maybe a hundred times?! I know I sure have over the years. It's good just to laugh at YOU Inc. and take charge of YOU Inc. yet again. Who cares how many times you need to start over? JDI.
