No, this doesn't say more people are getting tattoos of fish. It says that fish are the ones getting tattoos!

Pet shops in China are selling fish that are tattooed with lucky characters and patterns. These inked fish are thought to bring good fortune and happiness to their owners. The most common character? A regional newspaper said it's often something that means "May your business boom."

The "fortune fish," as they are called, are typically parrot fish due to their survival rates and are tattooed using lasers. So far there are no studies on effects to the fish, but many die in accidents from the laser machine.

So...cool? or cruel? What are your thoughts? For only around $2 , I might have to get one for my office (joking)!

Michael, I think a tattooed fish is a little disturbing. It looks cool, but it's mean to the poor fish. Lasers don't feel good. I mean if it has to be "tattooed" couldn't they use spray paint or something that isn't painful? What will they think of next???

I've had a laser on me -- to remove sun spots - it is PAINFUL and I am not a wimp.

I've also heard they inject the fish with dyes . . .

They look REALLY cool but I have to agree - disturbing.

Michael - but do parrot fish bring the same luck as koi? Is the writing disruptive to the feng shui? perhaps it would be better to have the good luck symbol stamped on a rock that's put in the koi pond.
