Opened in 1914, Nichols Hardware is a landmark in Purcellville.  Still a family business, Nichols Hardware survived many of the fires that plagued the wooden shops in the early 20th Century because it was wisely constructed of brick.

NICHOLS HARDWARE STOCKS WHAT THE PUBLIC WANT. 

Stock in the early Nichols Hardware reads like a history book.  Some popular items included cast iron wood burning cooking stoves that sold for $100, Stag brand house paint that sold for 1 a gallon (that made 2 gallons), a Kelvinator refrigerator that sold for $99.  Nichols updated the billing system in 1949 and started using a cash receipt where the customer got a carbon copy.  That system is still in use.  No computers in Nichols who says "You don't fix what's not broke".
