Not to waste your time, it is all about politics. We have new administration, and the promised change start shaping up, so which way is the future. Where are we going? If we are at full speed, has anyone checked the brakes?
Inna Hardison posted They Will Kill Your Grandma and Make Your Toddler Read Karl Marx!!!. With her undeniable writing talent, her political posts are disappointing. Sincere, but disappointing. Which is OK. The ensued discussion somehow turned into somewhat rude and then into unacceptable name calling, and I quit the discussion for that matter.
The issues at stake are very serious and the discussion is not over. So what the proponents of Obama's Health Care bill tell us?
Read the 1,000 page bill and then you will open your mouths. There is nothing in the bill that you are yelling about.
Have I read 1,000 pages of the bill? No. I have never read a single page of any bill. That's not my job. We have elected politicians for that, and in a democratic country I rely on the media, and on the think tanks. Both sides bring their best defenses and it helps me and millions of regular folks out there to understand the issues, and help form a position.
Anyway, kudos to you, who read 1,000 pages of the Obama Health Care bill. How much of it did you actually understand? Isn't it that each paragraph is open to interpretations? Let's say you read "measured outcome", so do you know what that means? And if you get a commentary, why do you trust the interpretations and the interpretators, which are nothing more than the declaration of intentions?
So, why is it so huge, and why it needs to be voted so fast? Are we all dying and it is an emergency? Ken in his comment to Inna's blog gave a very revealing answer to consider "It's perfectly understandable why they wanted to move the bill through quickly. As we've seen, the delay has given the insurance corporations the time to organize opposition to the bill using scare tactics and half-truths propagated via FOX NEWS and Republican talk radio. Unfortunately, it's created a perception that plays right into the hands of the insurance corporations. In retrospect, the emphasis on dispatch caused more problems than it solved."
It means that they should have tried to rush it so that people do not have time or opportunity to voice their opinion. All this BS that Fox News so easily could distort the truth is for babies. If they really could, Barak Obama would still be a community organizer. People have concerns and questions, so why are they running their agenda at maximum speed?
And this is the most important part.
We are essentially being told that we do not know what we are fighting against, just try it and it would be great. Why are we opposing government takeover, while right now the insurance companies control it? Well, if we agree to this logic, and all we will do is move the reigns from the insurance companies into the hands of the government, it is not about health care. It is about THE CONTROL. And we do not need to read 1,000 pages to see it.
Did the administration look at other proposals, which were addressing the same problems, but which are not even close to the proposed costs? No. Why? Because it is about THE CONTROL, not health care.
The left or the right, or the center, collectively The People, we have the right to scrutinize any bill. The administration can do their best to explain how it will benefit us and the nation. The Fox News has nothing to do with it. If they had that much power, how did Obama became a president?
I oppose these drastic measures not because I do not like page 13 or 97 of this bill. I oppose the shift in the direction that this nation is making, pushed by the President. I am opposed to his agenda. It is like we are on the train and suddenly it starts going backwards. I am angry and I am being told not to worry. Why worry, when the landscape is so nice, and it may be a nice place where it takes me? But I do not want to go there. I do not care that the promises are great. This is not the destination that I wanted to go. Those who have hijacked the locomotive are now offended that we do not appreciate the free ride?
"But the greatest waste is the hidden cost of defensive medicine: tests and procedures that doctors order for no good reason other than to protect themselves from lawsuits. Every doctor knows, as I did when I practiced years ago, how much unnecessary medical cost is incurred with an eye not on medicine but on the law." Dr. Krauthammer," as in "trained and board-certified physician" (M. D. 1975, Harvard), not merely "professor" or "dean." (just scroll to July 24 article).
So why the administration did not start with the legal reform, which is quite possibly is the underlying problem here? Because the bill is not about the health care. It is about THE CONTROL.
