Creating great marketing pieces for your real estate business does not have to be expensive. Yet the impact they have on your real estate business could be invaluable.
This is the third entry in a series discussing various marketing pieces to promote yourself and your product.
Marketing with Press Releases!
While the focus of the previous two entries
was on staying in contact with former and current customers, this article addresses the use of press releases in the overall marketing and promoting of yourself in your real estate business.
Unlike other marketing products that are sent to customers directly in a targeted manner, a press release takes a much broader approach.
Press releases are sent to your local newspaper for inclusion in a special business news section in your community. Look in your local newspaper for the day of the week these announcements appear, there is always a contact name, address, and deadline included by which articles and press releases are to be submitted for printing.
You will not have total control over the actual information that is being printed, so be prepared for the newspaper to edit your article.
What better place is there to announce important advancements or changes in your real estate business?
Do not be secretive about your accomplishments!
You may use a press release to announce a milestone such as celebrating a five-year anniversary as a REALTOR, to inform readers of a new designation, obtaining another license in a related field, or even something such as changing from one brokerage to another. All it takes is a little effort to produce and submit a letter to the newspaper.
Submit your press release on letterhead with your contact information. You may also include a photo, either black and white or color depending on the preference of the paper.
Are you active in the community?
Do you or an organization you belong to frequently participate in fundraisers and other charity events? If so, here is another great opportunityfor publicity that often gets overlooked!. Just send a photo preferably with you included and a short article explaining the event, activity, and organization involved to the social or club news section of your newspaper. While publication of this type of news will not provide direct advertising to you or your real estate business, it will create publicity for you and bring your name to the attention of the public.
Providing information in this manner is effective in reminding your existing customers of you, your services and expertise! And while this is not a targeted or scheduled marketing activity, press releases and community news articles will introduce your name to other people who may be looking for real estate services in the future and call you because your name is familiar to them.
As real estate professionals we often forget about press releases or other publications in newspapers when we should make it part of our overall marketing plan and implement them whenever appropriate. After all, the best thing about press releases is that they are absolutely free advertising!
