If you leave a comment, Jim will visit your blog and comment. Many of the Mission Valley condos allow pets, but usually no more than two, and they typically don't allow exotic pets or illegal pets. Additionally, if you have an aquarium, they sometimes are restricted in condominium if they are more than ten gallons.

Pets of the feline persuasion are quite popular as condominium companions because they typically make easier indoor pets than dogs, especially large dogs that need room to roam in order to be healthy.

Here for my feline-loving readers are some interesting kibble and (tid)bits in the history of domesticated cats:

  1. Zoey the Cool CatAt least one cat is known to have arrived at Plymouth Rock on the Mayflower in 1620.
  2. In 1749, American colonists sent for hundreds of cats from Europe because of an infestation of black rats.
  3. In 1860, competive cat racing made a brief appearance in Belgium.
  4. The first cat show was organized in 1871 by Harrison Weir and held at the Crystal Palace in London.
  5. In "The Expression of Emotions," Charles Darwin discussed the emotions of cats, writing that a cat's body posture, gait, and manner of movement expressed its moods. For example, affectionate cats rub against their masters staff members, contented cats tend to roll around on the floor, and a happy cat frequently chases its tail.
  6. Chessie the CatThe first American cat show was held at Madison Square Garden in New York City in 1895.
  7. Chessie the Cat made its first appearance in 1933 to advertise the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway. The tag line read, "Sleep like a kitten and arrive fresh as a daisy."
  8. 1940s - Tom and Jerry were starring in a series of short cartoon films created, directed, and written by Joseph Barbera and William Hanna.
  9. 1940 - Catwoman makes her appearance in the very first Batman comic.
  10. 1945 - Sylvester the Cat makes his debut, although under the pseudonym Thomas. Tweetie Pie didn't arrive until 1947, and Thomas legally changed his name in 1948.
  11. 1947 - Kitty litter is invented.
  12. 1953 - Top Cat makes his debut, another Hanna-Barbera creation.

Hi Jim,

What an interesting post about kitty facts!  I really enjoyed it and most of the facts I did not know.  My favorite is the one about Chessie the Cat.  Thank you for sharing!  Have a great week!

I grew up watching Tom & Jerry and loved it! Also you should know that Schnauzers were raised as "ratters" in the German castles to keep the royalty living rat free.

Hey, Rita - You can think my marketing guru for the fact about Chessie the Cat. Mr. Guru is a big train buff and saw that I was doing a post on kitty cat facts, so he mentioned Chessie the Cat and brought out his Chessie the Cat advertisement and then looked up more information on the Internet.

Hey, Betina - I'm sure our fine, furry, four-legged friends have had a lot to do throughout history with keeping mere mortals out of trouble.

Hey, Shoshana - I'm not sure I do. I cringe every time I hear about another horse being put down at the Del Mar race track. I don't understand the incessant need to race other animals. Of course, I also don't understand why we have such a fit about dog and cock fighting yet we let people beat each other up under the guise of "boxing." Aren't people worth much more than dogs and roosters? Doesn't make sense to me.

Hey, Jane - I know nothing about kitty litter or any of its properties. Zoey the Cool Cat has her own private pooper scooper here, and it's not me!
