Well, folks - Tucson was born 234 years ago this week, being formed in 1775.  Captain Hugh O'Connor chose the site (what is now Downtown Tucson) for the Presidio San Augustin del Tucson (Contrary to thought in some regions of the country, not everything that took place back then was related to the American Revolution! LOL).

Click on the banner above to go to the official Birthday website & see what events are coming up.  There is an interactive calendar which shows the various events for each day - and contact information for further details.

My favorite event is happening on Thursday, the 20th - when the 4th Avenue Underpass is officially opened!  This is going to link the University of Arizona, 4th Avenue District & Downtown.  Track has been laid in anticipation of the Modern Streetcar project, which will run along this route.

Kent:  Just a big Happy Birthday to your fair city of Tucson.  But please, if you go to the party, don't stand too close to the cake.  With 234 candles on it... it surely will be a fire hazard.  :)

Don't worry, Karen Anne - I've got experience with that many candles.  You should have seen how many we put on my buddy's ex-wife's cake.....oh, never mind!

Kent:  I love it !  I just love it.  But... all that does is pass the danger from your buddy's ex-wife's birthday cake... to her following you around with a baseball bat.  Don't forget to duck !

There is a surprising amount of history in downtown Tucson. I was at a little museum recently (La Pilita?) and the curator was telling me a little about the history and where the original well may or may not be. Enjoyed the post.

The city has a birthday party??? I wonder how that would go over here...it sounds like a very nice idea, and a way to get everybody involved in promoting the city's image!
