Often times as home stagers we find some real interesting things behind, over and under the furniture we move around.

At a recent staging, this particular find had me laughing out loud. As I was moving furniture around in the living room, I found a pile of small pieces of paper behind a leather chair.  At first I didn't think anything of it, but as I got closer to the ground, I realized that it was a pile of gum wrappers, I just had to laugh!

You see earlier in the day, when I first arrived at the property for staging, I met with the homeowner and had the opportunity to meet her 4 adorable little ones. After discovering the wrappers, my imagination quickly ran through the four darling faces, wondering which one of the little cutie pies could have gotten a hold of the pack of gum.

Was it just one of them sneaking behind the sofa and working solely, chewing away each piece one by one until the wad of gum was so huge that they couldn't chew any more?  Perhaps it was a team effort and two of them were partners in crime!  Which ever the case may have been, the wrappers were thrown away and I continued on with my work, staging the house.

Needless to say the living room came out beautifully and was ready for the market, with no evidence of the wrappers left behind.  A beautiful home that any family could imagine themselves living in.

Michelle, How cute. This takes me back to my son, he was always sneaking candy.  It is so true that how we live and sell are two different things. I think some homeowners think we as stagers live in perfectly organized show room ready homes. If they could only see behind the scenes. Speaking for myself anyway!

I think this is an adorable story except for one little thing - the reality of it - and by that I mean that my 13 year old is constantly leaving little wrappers for one thing or another all over my house (which actually is for sale right now).... argh!  When we get a call about a showing I have to go hunting high and low for where she might have left a mess....

Very cute!  I'm sure they each denied being the gum chewer!  You never know what you'll find, do you?

When I moved my entertainment center, I found a whole slew of candy wrappers that my teenager had chucked up there. Crime will out! (though the statute of limitations had expired by that time...)

Hi Ladies,

Thanks for all of your great comments, glad to have made you smile!  The family left town for a week and a half while the house is fresh on the market. A great way to keep the house maintained, especially when you have a large family to keep up after.

How funny. Several years ago I used to take lots of candy to inspections to keep everyone occupied while I did my job. At one inspection the parents specifically told their two children "No candy!" so I put the candy jar in my tool bucket. When I got back to the office and unloaded everything, I found the candy jar half empty but "someone" had also used it to put all the candy wrappers in. I was laughing for an hour while I wrote the report.

Love this story - I don't have too many problems with on the floor - but under the sofa cushions.  I usually dread lifting those up to vacuum.  What can you do?  Thanks for the reminder of how precious are little ones are even if they leave their wrappers and food particles behind.

Love it! I can just picture my 3 yr old going through an entire pack of gum, stashing those wrappers in some hidden spot, only to be uncovered months from now! :)

Sheila- Thanks for stopping by!  The things you can find under those sofa cushions!  If your real lucky...you may find some good pocket change, Cha Ching!

Annie- I can't believe that your little angel would be capable of such a thing! ;o)
