I hesitantly signed up to be the chair for the block party in my neighborhood.  Well, they then told me it was actually three streets to be included.  How that's considered a BLOCK party, I don't know.  Anyway, I have never done this before and wanted to make my street(s) the best ever and the envy of all the other streets!

I think my budget is around $150.00 but I can get people to bring things too.

So...any fabulous ideas out there?!?!

I know this isn't the norm for AR and I hesitated to ask but I think you all are so creative and giving when it comes to great advise and help.  So thank you in advance!

Don't know if you have anything like this in your area. But we have a Realtor who on the side has a Hot-dog stand. He will come out set up his stand and serve soft drinks hot dogs and popcorn.

So it's sort of a triangle block, huh?  Any chance you could get a local sponsor and increase your budget?  Also, firetrucks always make a big impression!  And if you do a baking contest of some sort...that way dessert is handled.  Renting a bouncy house is always fun too (and not just for kids!).

Ok, that's all I've got.  I'm out of ideas.  Good luck!

Since you are from Texas why not make it a Texas style BBQ? You can get chili pepper lights and BBQ chicken and hamburgers and have several different kinds of hot sauces. A pinata is always fun for the kids...maybe one in the shape of a chili pepper?

How about a Luau themed party.  There are great items for such through a catalog company called The Oriental Trading Company.  They have great prices, and many themes.  There's also a company called Shindigs.  Good Luck, sounds fun.

Thank you all for the help and great ideas!  I really appreciate you all.  Maybe I'll remember to take pic's and post them.

Hi Cindy - We host a black party here every New Year's Eve (very family friendly).  Some ideas could be:

1) Hire a dj/band

2) Chose a theme (luau, bbq, 50s, beach, disco, mardi-gras, etc)

3) Ask local businesses to help sponsor or donate items (Realtors? Grocery store in the area? Water/Ice store?)

4) Drop off flyers to all those in the "block".   Don't forget volunteers to help.

5) Do you need any type of a permit? (Check with your city clerk)

6) Don't forget to block off the streets, if needed.  Do you really want cars driving down the streets with kids playing every where?

7) Entertainment for the kids is crucial.  Water guns? face painting? relays?

8) What about a pie eating contest? Or hot dogs or marshmellows?

9) What about a pig calling contest for adults? (This can actually be a lot of fun!)

10) Don't turn anybody down who volunteers to help.  You just never know who your next client will be.

Good luck to you!  Don't forget to post some pictures when you're done.
