Hi Kathy - Thanks! Being a Southern California transplant to Southern Oregon, it always amazes me when we see so little traffic - on the main highway leading to a National Monument, no less!

Thanks for stopping by.

Karen,

I like roadway pictures like this. It does look like it is very lightly traveled. :)

Hi Karen... what a great photo!  I can practically feel the wind blowing through the car window and smell the pine aroma!

Patricia - We see lots of bikers headed to and from Crater Lake on this highway. Long way up, means a long glide home. My goal is to get the mpg on my Prius up to 60 mpg since it's a long gradual incline on the way to and we can coast 90% of the way back. Didn't quite hit that this time, though, since we had the A/C running on this 90+ degree day.

Michelle - I took visiting family up to Crater Lake this past Monday. I think I'll make sure it is a Monday EVERY time we make this journey, since it was indeed very peaceful with few people out and about for peak summer season. Were seated right away when we stopped for pie at Beckie's Cafe on our way home, too.

Steven N- After a long hike, the journey home can seem long sometimes. Crater Lake is less than a 90 minute drive for us from Medford, though. Even though this road was pretty empty, we always stay alert for bikers and wildlife crossing.

Marchel - My youngest and niece were looking for "Twilight trees" - trees big and impressive enough for Edward to carry Bella up - on the journey up. Those trees, apparently, are the biggest of all. ;-)

Steve H - Even though this was Monday, I still expected to see more folks on the road going to or from Crater Lake or taking in the many wonderful scenic sights along the way.

Steve S - Wonderful! That's exactly what we experienced, until it got warm and everyone wanted the a/c on.

Thank you all for your comments.

I'm with Karen above, what a great scene for a bike ride or even walking excursion.  Great pix Karen.  :)

Hi Donne - This is a Oregon State highway that runs right through Medford and heads up to Crater Lake. This shot was at about the 1/2 way point, about 45 minutes from where we live, so a little far for a walk. We have scenic highways like this all around us.
