But Terry, this program was an unmitigated success, the administration says so!
Terry, You sound as fired up about this as I do about health care. Honestly, I don't blame this administration - - -but I do blame us, the American people! This administartion is at least trying. Until us Americans stop being a bunch of materialistic brats, we're going to have a lot more of this nonsense. Argh! I'm glad to see that there's so many of us talking about it and expressing our views.
The cash for clunker project had some good concepts - - implementation wasn't great though.........
Do you know anyone who bought a car using this project? I don't.
Cars were for the most part were cheaper before the dealers thought they could make more money letting the government pay them.
We were going to buy a new car and had been pricing them for about a month before this program started. It cost more now, even if we got the full $4,500 off the same car, we were looking at.
Linda I came from that business and have some friends with millions on the street with no guarantee. Some of the dealers went up on price and the factory cut incentives as well. I agree the implementation was terrible... as I lay here in the operating room: LOL just kidding.
Terry, This is not to mention how many people the car dealers had to reassign to handle the extra paperwork and the mechanics to end the life of the clunkers...
The way I see it,
Paul
Another silly program. And they think they can run health care. Frightening.
But I saw President Obama telling us what a success it was (just like the post office) and we know he wouldn't lie to us.
There's a simple explanation for the administration's lack of understanding simple business concepts (fronting $200k-300k). How many of them have ever held a position where they had to produce something of value to make an income or meet a payroll?
I expect to see them all - Obama, Reid, Pelosi - dancing in the streets singing Happy Days Are Here Again! The recession is over - did you hear?!
The Cash for Clunkers program appeared to be a huge success here. I have a good friend who works at the La Mesa Ford dealership and they were inundated. Every dealership I drove by was advertising the heck out of the program, and over in the Mile of Cars in National City and Car Country in Carlsbad, you couldn't find a parking space because of all the people buying cars.
Perhaps in those other areas the car businesses were failures to begin with.
Jon Budish (comment #9): I agree! So many people don't understand how successful businesses run. My husband and I have been noticing this about some Democrat friends of ours. None of them have produced a product and earned a living that way. They earn money through grants, teaching, working for the government, or collecting welfare. (BTW, when did it stop being called welfare???). Maybe that's why Ross Perot intrigued me way back when!!
It GW's fault I tell you, he is trying to get every drop of oil out of those clonkers to sell back to the Iraqis or something. GW is running the country from an undisclosed location. Why take blame when you can blame GW.
