Burroughs Park - Tomball TX

Burroughs Park located in Northwest Harris County just outside of Tomball is located on Hufsmith between Kuykendahl and FM 2978.  This 320-acre park maintained by Precinct 4 has something for everyone.  The hours of operation are from 7:00 in the morning until dark.  As you drive in to the park you will notice the sports fields.  The day I was there a soccer tournament and baseball tournament were going on.  I drove back to the fishing lake to begin with and by the time I came back the baseball tournament was over so I only have pictures of the soccer tournament.

Information on cancellations or changes in the game schedules are directed to the individual associations.  This is not something Precinct 4 takes care of any questions on that you need to contact the particular sports association directly.

As you continue on through the park you will get to the seven-acre fishing lake.  This is not a catch and release lake you get to keep what you catch.   The exception is large mouth bass.  You may catch 3 trout but they must be at least 12" in length.  The fishing must be good because the day I was there the lake was packed with fishermen.  There is a sign that gives the park rules and no swimming or wading is allowed.

The park has numerous picnic tables and barbeque grills.  They are available on a first come, first serve basis.  There is even an observation deck.  At the north end of the park you will find a pavilion which will seat over 250 people.  The Harris county engineers that designed this received an award from the Texas Forest Association for Excellence in Wood Design.  To reserve the pavilion you need to call the Precinct 4 Parks Reservations department at 281-353-4196.  You will need to call between the hours of 7:30 to 4:30 Monday through Friday to make your reservation.

Wow, very nice layout and excellent post on Burroughs Park.  The lake looks very nice.  Can you go swimming in the lake or is it for fishing only?

Marchel,

Looks like a fun place to have an afternoon picnic.  We lived in West Texas for a few months but there wern't trees like these out that way.  Your area looks green and vibrant.

Marchel,

Great shots, a reminder that we should take time out to enjoy nature.

Good Job, Marchel!

Great stuff to share on Localism.  I'm working on a couple myself, and looking forward to posting them.

Karen:  There is no swimming in the lake.  Good point.  I will add that to my post.

Rita:  I had no idea there were so many trees in Texas.  As a child we visited my Uncle in Dallas quite often and I thought all of Texas was like that.  Not so in our area.  We have tons of towereing pine trees.  Now the farther west you go you run out of the trees and it looks more like the Dallas area; probably about a 45 minute drive west from here.

Jennifer:  We just got a new camera and taking those shots was a great thing to do on a Sunday afternoon.  I did enjoy the park.

Mike:  Thanks for stopping by.  I will be looking for your localism post.  Your post have always given me good ideas.

Marchel - Great presentation! I love writing posts about the parks in my area. I think its because it's easy to take great pictures, like these.

Thanks Paula!  We just got a new camera and I really had fun taking the pictures.  Burroughs is a really nice park also.  We live so close and don't take advantage of it the way we should.

Marchel I agree with everyone else those are great photos. Burroughs park sounds like a great place to spend the day. 8 miles of walking trails sounds fabulous.

Marchel, now THIS would be my idea of a good localism post. Excellent. Love the photos and the green grass. :-) Very nice indeed.

Hi Ashley:  Thanks!!  That was my first outing with our new camera.  My only problem that day was that I had it on some kind of setting where you take a picture of yourself and I was getting a 4 sec delay every time I took a picture.  I have now learned how to turn that setting off.

Teri:  Thanks for the compliment. I have really enjoyed doing the localism post.   That park is only a few miles from our home; you would think we would go there more.  We need to take our dog walking on the trails she would love it.

Wow, terrific post for your park and your community.  I wish more real estate professionals would head out and focus on showcase places and amenities in their communities as you have.

I've heard great things from my family members near Tomball Texas, but this post just accents those comments with some great visuals.  Keep up the great photo montages.

Thanks Steve!  We just bought a new camera and having the right equipment REALLY helped.  I wish I could have got the girls playing ball but by the time I got back up there, they were packing up to go home.  Maybe next time.

So you have family in Tomball.  I really love Tomball!  I have done most of my marketing in Tomball; the people are so friendly.

Oh now I'll get in all kinds of trouble because I'm not sure if they are in Tomball itself or in one of the neighboring communities.  But close to Tomball I can assure you.  I just sent them a note to enrich me with more specifics so I wouldn't be such a horrible family member.

Texas has always been a favorite for our family for visiting, for GOLFING of course, and for mexican food.  Los Almedos (sp?) and a very strong marguerita come to mind pretty quickly.

We love this park and use it often with groups and our grandkids. I am having trouble reaching the reservations person to see about a date to reserve the pavilion. Any new phone number that is different than the one on the Pct. 4 Parks site? Does the pavilion have electric hookup for using crockpots there?

10/07/2008 03:08 PM by Rhonda

Hi Rhonda:

I would suggest calling Precinct 4 themself.  They are the one who manages the park.  I think that they have electric hook ups but I don't know that for sure.  Good luck; it is a great park!!
