Susan MangigianOne of my all time favorite REALTORS, bloggers, and of course friends, here on Active Rain is Susan Mangigian of RE/MAX Preferred in West Chester, PA. She is going through somewhat of an anxiety crisis or maybe is it a panic attack as her 50th birthday looms over the horizon September 3rd. Me being a gentleman would never give out a lady's age but Susan is so friendly, loveable (and transparent) she is telling everyone anyway. So for Susan the way she sees it

THE END OF THE WORLD IS NEAR.

I don't know what it is with Susan and age. She used to tell me she was like 48.7 years old and could count the days till the next birthday. I just think she needs a little reassurance from the rest of the gang here that she is still beautiful, still much loved, needed by all of us now more than ever, and we always want her in our lives.

I point out in my blogs that a little kindness goes a long way, so if you do read this blog post of mine, just put some encouraging words below in it for Susan that it will be all right in the end. Another day to celebrate, and feel free on HER day, on her blog, to wish her a big Happy Birthday.  But also at 50th birthday plus one day, she will be just as valuable and wanted and loved by all of us as she was back in the 40th decade that will now be in the rear view mirror. Having already crossed the threshold she so is fearing or has such anxiety about (age before beauty Susan), all I can say it is a piece of cake this age thing. Just a number. 50 is the new 40, or 60 is the new 40.

I would have imagined Susan back in the Christopher Columbus days as being part of that Flat Earth Society. Stay where you are. Don't cross that line. Or Else!! My natural Chris the Explorer self needs to show Susan that it isn't really all that scary out here on the edge of the earth. You might discover new worlds and that actually the earth really ISN'T flat like you feared. It is actually very, very beautiful.

Just like you Susan. At any age. But then again Susan, maybe you are right. It could be all over!!! LOL. Susan is someone I will always remember who taught me, "they don't teach funny!"

You have many wonderful days ahead of you. Don't sweat the candles. Happy Birthday my dear friend!!

Birthday Fireflys

Susan, it's only another day. I've already seen that one. The days seem to go by faster after that.

Age it totally irrelevant especially when we are older than the real 39. There is birth and death and the part in between is all good. But I do know that many of us would like re-live parts of our lives again ( this time getting it right). But I fully understand that if we actually did have a chance to re-live some part of our life, we would do exactly the same things all over again. Because it is who we are or more correctly who we have become. My take on this is that with all the new technology, I would be so much farther ahead and the learning curve is at least easier when one can actually stay awake and pay attention, lol.

Gary,

Dick and Dixie have stolen my line. All I know that in my scale 50 is being young, and Susan is young. She is even panics like a young girl. Isn't that wonderful?

Hey Gary...I also believe that you must keep the sense of humor or just fade away.   I don't see my age as a handicap, but I know many who do!

Gary, This post is really nice of you!

Susan, First of all, HAPPY  BIRTHDAY!  I had a hard time turning 49 because I KNEW my option for the coming year would be to turn 50 OR....Let's just say I was happy to turn 50 :)  I hope you have a wonderful day!

Thanks everyone.  You are all right.  The alternative to my turning 50 would be not being here, on this earth, enjoying everything that I love.  And, Dixie, I can't wait for grandchildren!!  My oldest is 20 and I told him that if I am not a grandmother by 60, I am adopting grandchildren! Thanks for all of these well wishes.  It's making my day.  xxoo

Gary:  How nice of you to look out for you friends.

Susan:  You've already been here for fifty years.  The birthday is just the celebration of the anniversary. Now that I've thrown you in the deep end of the mental pool, and brought your stomach into your throat.... I am a big believer in every year being better than the last.  I'm facing 40 next year and really haven't batted an eyelash.  It's a number. I guess I have always viewed age a little differently than most.  When my Mom was 55, I was turning 16.  50's were the age of my Mom when I was a teenager.   Have a huge party for yourself.  Something to look forward to.  Focus on the party.

When you have shuffled around this planet as long as I have you always find it humorous when folks fret over their 50th birthday.  However, I remember being in bed for 4 days crying during my 40th birthday, but I sailed through my 50th birthday.  BUT age has its benefits. . .I don't remember my 60th birthday at all:-)  Dementia and Alzheimers can truly be a wonderful thing:-)

Age is relative, and laughing with relatives and friends keeps us young and makes the time pass faster than we like. Enjoy every minute and remember 50 is the new 40! Live it up my friend!!

Gary,

This whole conversation sounds like a George Carlin skit. Susan, you look great, regardless of your age. It's a number-get over it. You look great!
