Bill Baker celebrated his 60th Birthday- Happy Birthday Bill!

Milt Stamoscelebrated his 77th birthday today and was surprised by his wife

Clarinel and Son Chris who brought a birthday cake to our meeting-- a delicious chocolate cake with creamy filling- yum.  Surprisingly Ron Accornero was nowhere to be seen; he must have heard about the cake. Congratulations Milt and hoping you have many more birthdays to celebrate with the club.

Happy 77th Birthday Milt!!!

Special Report:

Anthony Bui, a 2003 graduate of Villa Park High and incoming senior at Cal Berkely reported on his 3 month club sponsored trip to Uganda.  Anthony led a team of students who worked in impoverished areas. He lived in villages without electricity or running water and dealt with local diseases such as Malaria, Typhoid and the HIV epidemic.  He was humbled by the poverty and learned a lot about the local problems faced by the Ugandans on a daily basis.  He promises to come back and give a full presentation, but he needs to get back to start his senior year of college.

Opportunity Drawing- Steven Pollack drew a 3; 20 cards remain and we're playing for about $900

Oktoberfest Update: Greg Mills

We're still looking for silent and live auction donations; remember this is our only major fundraiser of the year.  Each member is responsible to donate or collect $250 and purchase

4 tickets. Letters have been sent out to local businesses and corporations soliciting donations.

Other suggestions are group dinners, outings, amusement park packages, hotel packages.

and some consignment items. Brad Reese will see if we can get the Engine 23 Firehouse to donate a dinner.  We're hoping to have at least 17-20 live auction items and as many silent auction items as we can collect. We also will have at least four opportunity drawing prizes and a door prize.

The following members have committed to buying a table for 10:

Mark Schmidt, Jeannie Hankins, Lesslie Giacobbi, Greg Mills, Steven Pollack, Bob Kreisberg, Millie Alexander and Jim Brodsky.  Great work!!

Remember this is a total club effort and everyone needs to do their best to make sure we have a fun, memorable and successful evening. If you want to get more involved the next meeting of the Oktoberfest Committee will be at Pam Dunn's home next Wednesday evening.

Speakers: Steve Stern and Millie Alexander

Steve Stern talked about the new District 5320 wine enthusiasts club that just started and is called Vintage 5320-  the group had a very enthusiastic meeting in August and is having its first dinner/ wine tasting event the Santa Maria Wine Diner on September 26th at the home of Steve and Lainey Stern.  The cost per person is $10 and anyone can attend - attendees are asked to bring either an appetizer, salad, side dish or dessert. Each couple should also bring a wine- red, white or dessert, or champagne from the Santa Maria area. To become a member you must join the Rotary International Wine Federation for $10; but you need not be a member to attend. The event begins at 6:00 PM with appetizers and dinner is planned to begin at 7:30 PM  The main course will be BBQ chicken and Tri Tips. For more information or to  RSVP contact Steve or Lainey Stern at 714-538-6233.   Four events are planned per year with one being a wine themed fundraiser..

Our club's American Bandstand Party will be in October, November time frame- this will be a membership and social event for the club.

Millie Alexandertalked to the group about the Holiday Party and it was agreed that it would be better to have the party in January- we're looking for a chairperson and we need to know the budget- Steve Stern thinks its $34 per person.  Last year's event at PJ's Abbey cost about $42 per person, but our demotion party cost less than expected.

Jay Lieberman is going to plan a theatre party after the 1st of the year.

A progressive dinner with a  roaring 20's theme was also discussed

Millie is a big Cal State Fullerton Baseball fan and she suggested we might go to a game when they play their big rival UC Irvine.

Remember the upcoming events this Saturday at the Tree Nursery and Ralph's

Have a safe and healthy week and we'll see you next Thursday.
