Just off of I-95 on Long Wharf Drive is the 600 foot Long Wharf Pier. The pier is a popular spot for bird watchers and where visiting tall ships dock during the summer.

Both offering sailing cruises during the summer months of the New Haven Harbor area. The Amistad Schooner is a life size replica of the historic Freedom Schooner Amistad and the Quinnipiack Schooner additionally serves as a floating classroom for hundreds of our local students.

Ed - Ain't that the truth? There was only one vendor there when I took these shots so I've got to go back and get a pic of them all lined up along Long Wharf Drive.

Donna - been there...sort of. I was close, on an AIDS benefit bike ride from NYC to Boston a number of years ago. We camped out in an area not far from here - several thousand folks. I love piers - the one in my area is terrific, and of course there is the famed Santa Monica Pier in LA.

That is a beautiful photo - makes you want to BE there.

Hi Jeff! - That must have been some ride! Kudos to you for participating in such a wonderful event. I love piers too. Some day I will get out your way to visit some of those great piers near you. There's another one not far from me at Fort Hale Park that I need to get some shots of too.

Donna, I've been there and it's lovely. I'm trying to remember if this is the pier that goes across the Sound or if I just happened to visit there. But as soon as I saw the sign I knew it :)

Pat - Isn't it just lovely? The ocean breeze only adds to the enjoyment of being there.

Carole - I'm not sure either if this pier went across the Sound at one time. I look forward to when the tall ships visit and dock at the pier.

Karen - It's pure magic all summer long! :)

Bill - You wouldn't believe how many people visit this stretch off of I-95. There are vendors selling everything from hot dogs to flowers to souvenirs and they do quite a business and it is quite the sight especially during the summer.

George - You can say that again. Just the thought of a cruise sound so much more refreshing than the heat we've had this week.
