So Here's the THING. How good advertising made me look.

On a recent road trip I saw the "Thing". Yes, I stopped. I stopped at the place in Arizona that had the "Thing". My daughter warned me not to look. She said it would be The Thing in Arizonalame. Well, I guess she was right. But boy sign after sign for miles and miles before the "Thing" sure got my attention. I just had to know what it was.

What is the lesson here? Well placed and well thought out ads really do work. Or are there other adverstising lessons here? These places along the highways do a great job of repeatedly plugging their stores until you feel like you just have to stop.

By the way, we bought some very pretty jewelry and some really tasty pistachios in the really fun giftshop.

The little video clip is also lame, but it's basically what the place looked like overall. I said "New Mexico", but I was confused. I was in Arizona :) By the way, click on the link I have up at the top to see a very good overview of the thing along with a pretty good video.

Ah yes, I remember The Thing! :) Enough repetition will pique the interest . . .

There's something about hearing things over and over that makes them stick.

For nearly 100 miles along I-95 there are more billboards advertising Pedros than you can count! Thousands are enticed and have made the owner of a brightly lit gift shop, service plaza, restaurant a multi-millionaire. If not for Pedros Dillon SC may not be on any map. Really have to give him credit-- no, make that cash!

Hi Everyone, thanks for the comments. Eric--you are right. Sometimes you just have to look! Candice--so you know about the THING? It actually has a long history. Marchel--repeat, repeat, repeat. Yep, hearing or seeing it time and time again sure makes it stick. Pat--I've read about ad techniques to get them to your opens. The yellow sign concept. There are videos on you tube about that. I guess it would work. John--isn't it amazing what people can accomplish? This guy knew how to do it right.

Have never been to the place -- so much in this state and so little time to see it all .

I would have been "sucked-in" by the hype myself.  Sometimes even the worse advertising can be very successful in drawing a crowd.

Bob and Carolin--it's one of those places that curiosity gets the best of you. Even if you know it's not worth your time.

Tom--yes, even annoying ads are effective. Maybe even the most effective.
