Last winter I showed homes to a deaf couple I met on-line but they needed to sell their house in Duluth before buying. I knew showing them homes at that point was a waste of time but I felt a kinship with this lovely couple and their adult daughter and son-in-law who signed for them to communicate with me.
On Super-Bowl Sunday, the coldest day of the year, we went out to look at 6 homes. My hands froze as I fumbled with lock-boxes in the -60 degree wind-chill but we merrily went along (none of us bog football fans) failing to find something they liked.
Alas, spring came, their house sold in Duluth and they bought a home walking distance to the adult kids in Mound, MN, a true gem of a house. Wilma, the lovely deaf woman, literally brought tears ti my eyes, when she grabbed me and swung me around when we walked in the door and she fell in love with the house. It was a precious experience I'll always treasure.
All said and done, we closed and I couldn't resist, inviting them to my lodge-like home on the peninsula on Lake Minnewashta for a home cooked meal. We had planned this a few months ago and I marked my calendar. Well, wouldn't you know, I've been so busy selling houses, 7 days a week, that it suddenly came up and I was overwhelmed at the thought of having company on Saturday night, when my laundry was piled up, I needed to grocery shop and my car needed a wash and gas. Being otherwise fairly organized, I pulled myself together and made a plan.
My Viking range top in my new kitchen, has a 24 inch wide flat surface griddle I often use. I decided to do a Teppanyaki dinner serving food one would enjoy at Samurai or Benihana as everyone (6 of us) gathers at my 12 person island while I cooked behind the island serving each delectable morsel as I cooked. Here's the menu I served:

Need I say we had a fabulous meal and an excellent evening. The wine and specialty beer flowed, the hand signing was vigorous and the company was delightful and... so appreciative of the fun food. My WH (Wonderful Hubby) was delighted to meet these great people and to share our home, food and wine.
Real estate is a perfect way to make new friends for life, build a clientele and stay in the kitchen in between showings!
Have a great week. I'll be back with more food. Want recipes? Contact me!
