Social networks are but one of many ways to let your skills be seen and utilized.  Community networking can create new oportunities for you.  For example in the first of the series I played in a Chamber of commerce golf outing.  This exposed me to business owners in the area.  I handed out business cards and created low key "face time".  My word for one on one conversations.Networking and having fun at the same time.

So can you do the same thing if your child is in soccer, football, cheerleading, baseball or glee club?  Yes, the parents have one goal in mind supporting their child, as you do.  Does it hurt you to be known as the Realtor of the glee club or soccer field?  Does it cost you much to sponsor drinks after a game?  Your child gets the benefit of your efforts and you meet parent you havent met and the cost for this networking opportunity is minimal.  One home listed and sold or a single buyer comes from your efforts I bet you would do it again.

It may seem odd to you to plan out your opportunities for marketing exposure even when it comes to family events but....let me see does anyone that sponsors an event or spend money for marketing do it witout a plan?  Cookouts that are designed to bring people together are PR programs to promote the company image.  You thought it was just saying thank you...right! :-)

Networking venuesNursing homes that host open houses for families and friends to come visit....that isn't because they want to have visitors...they want you to become an advocate and help them fill vancanies with your word or mouth advertising.

Networking is a skill that can be learned.  It does not mean you can not have fun while you are doing your networking.

In part 3 we will discuss some of the fine points of networking to make your efforts productive and fun at the same time.

Thanks for stopping back see you in a few days with part 3.  Community Networking, enjoy yourself at the same time.Flexit Realty logo

Very good posts, and I look forward to "part 3".    To give back to the community is an essential of a productive business plan.    To receive, one needs to also give...it seems to be the law of the universe.

Gary, thanks for the great tips.  Great reminder to be "visable" when attending community activities.  I tend to be pretty low-keyed during these times.  I appreciate the little prod to step out of my "comfort zone".  Looking forward to "part 3" as well!
