Once upon a time . . . there was a home builder in Lake Oswego, OR 97034 who, apparently, had read "The Lord of the Rings" at some point in their life.

It must have been very awe inspiring.  Because then that builder grew up, they actually named streets in the vast subdivision with all too familiar names (for those Hobbit fans).

Now, this area was built circa 1970's and 1980's prior to the movies coming out.  But the names of the streets do reflect the builders passion.

There is: Hobbit Ct, Tolkein Ln, Hillshire Dr, Anduin Terr, Rivendell Ct, Rivendell Rd . . . to name a few.

When I was up in the area showing property several years ago . . . coincidentally, it was right when TLOTR hit the movie theatres.  Of course, the names stood out.  We actually toured a lovely, elegant home on SW Rivendell Ct.

And these properties are not little Hobitts!  To the contrary, they are very high-end, expansive homes that would make Bilbo Baggins NEVER want to move.

Can you imagine a Hobbit living in a 4500 sq. ft. 5 bedroom, 4 bath home on >.50 acres?  WHO cares about "my precious" . . . with a sauna, alcove, two master suites, tennis courts, etc.

People do a lot of things in homage of someone they admire or aspire to be.  Whoever the builder was (and I'm sure I can find out -- just too lazy really) they did a great tribute to J. R. R. Tolkien's labor of love.

And now you know that Lake Oswego, OR 97034 has a "The Lord of the Rings" connection.

Yes, I'd like to know who the builder was. Also, how difficult would it be for you to post some photos of the inside of one of these homes?

That's pretty neat Carla. We have a subdivision down here called Wimbledon and all the streets are named after famous tennis players. Since developers create the roads, they can name them pretty much anything they want to. I'm waiting for someone like comedian Martin Short or Larry the Cable Guy to get into developing! I can only imagine what those streets would be named!

By the way, how many Hobbits can you fit in a 4,500 square foot home!

Hi Heather, I don't, personally, have photos, but I can forward the listing sheets if you want?  Seriously, the are GORGEOUS properties.  (Have a buyer???)  :-)

LOL Craig -- How many Hobbits . . . FUNNY!  I've seen "golf themed" streets when they developed around a course, etc.  Not that original.  You've got to admit having LOTR street names was pretty original.

That's pretty cool if you ask me. I always wonder where the builders here come up with their street names, we don't have any places where it would be that obvious.

Hi JL -- I have another "series" to post on street names.  Have you been following?  The Simpsons, Lord of the Rings . . . and next . . . Alice on Wonderland!!

This is seriously cool Carla (not hard core LOTR however!)  I bet when those movies came out the values shot up!  This series is really original and flippin cool ;)

My grandmother lived in a small neighborhood in Durham, Oregon and all the roads there were named after places and such in Middle Earth. The main road was Rivendell Drive and there were roads and cul-de-sacs called Whitfurrows, Arkenstone, Brandyshire, etc. It was a beautiful neighborhood and I really miss it. I used to tell kids at school (after I moved) that I grew up near Rivendell.

Hi Kristen . . . I bet the kids loved to hear that,  Seems as though your area had a lot more distinctive LOTR names :-)
