I just got an e-mail from Two Clever Marketing Services.  I clicked on the e-mail because it said something about 'expired' listing postcards.

Here's just one of the postcard images in their expired listing postcard collection:

When I first saw it, I thought, "Wow". As in, I don't know what to make of it.  I personally think it's funny(perhaps because I have an 8-year old boy and potty humor is all the rage in our house these days). But how would others take it if they received a postcard like this in the mail?

Then again, the purpose of direct mailing should be to grab the attention of the recipient.  And the way to grab attention, as we all probably know, is to elicit some sort of emotional response or connection.  This is one postcard that will get talked about and perhaps passed around at the office.

I looked at their other offerings, and they have some good stuff! I like these guys.  I don't think I have the guts to send out the postcard above, but I'm intrigued by what they do have. Some postcards I like, some I don't, but this company definitely gets credit for making postcards that people will actually read!

I'm glad you didn't show us the postcard that really _grabs_ you!  In terms of sending anything out, always remember that what you send is a reflection of you.  Don't send it if is not an image you are willing to be stuck with the rest of your life.  But wait, you did just blog it.  Hmm.

I think it will get your attentions..... not sure how many listing you would get. I think some would find it funny and creative, however most may find it offensive. There is a fine line you must walk when marketing yourself in creative ways while still gaining respect as a professional.

I personally think it is offensive, maybe a sign of my age.  Do you have a company that you recommend for post cards?

I don't think that is very professional.  I agree that what we send out reflects on us. The agent who sends that may have a great sense of humor, but who wants Jay Leno representing you?  Catchy is ok, but making jokes just trivializes the profession.

Robert - I agree that what you send is a reflection of who you are.  While I think this was funny, I would never send it out to people.  When I first saw it I recoiled a bit.  But it does get your attention.

Brad - I'd like to find out if anyone else has had success with these types of postcards.  It's pretty in-your-face, and I think that most people would have some sort of reaction to it, but I don't know that they'd necessarily call the Realtor on the card.

Sybil-I don't have anyone that I recommend for RE cards, though if you just want printing, I always use Beard Printing out of PA. They do great work and are very reasonable.

Bonnie - I don't think the above postcard is very professional either, I'm curious as to how much success anyone has had with it, or if anyone's even sent it out.  That being said, the trend in marketing for not only real estate but on TV for other products has been to use humor to grab people's attention.  I can see why - my favorite commercial right now is the one for Staples: "It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year" playing in the background, ecstatic Dad buying school supplies for kids going back to school! But that's not in the least bit offensive either.

I like catchy post cards...but I wouldn't recommend that my agents send that one out....

WOW. I don't even know how to reply to that. It's a darn shame, that kind of marketing has filtered it's way to the real estate market.  Just a shame. Thanks for the input Lisa.

The "visual" on this has nothing to do with houses . . . and to equate one with the other is a non sequitor, at best.  Is this guy's managing broker "approving" this ad??  Hmmmm  . . . makes you wonder where good taste begins and 8-year old potty humor begins.
