The Feng Shui Bathroom:  Feng Shui The Series Pt. 6 by Feng Shui New York Consultant

As a Feng Shui practitioner in New York, I frequently am asked by my clients about the Energy of Bathrooms as they relate to Feng Shui.

Some Feng Shui Principles are very literal.  For example, in Feng Shui we know the Kitchen is what nourishes our minds, bodies and spirits.

The Bedroom in Feng Shui is crucial to ensure rest and is an important area to evaluate for attracting or strengthening a relationship and to address Fertility issues from a Feng Shui Perspective.

When we think of the Energy in Feng Shui associated with a bathroom we think of DRAIN energy.  It is said by some schools of Feng Shui that our Energy, Our Finances, our Happiness and our Health can be drained by the energy of a bathroom.

The area of the Bagua the bathroom is placed in is another important consideration in Feng ShuiWhile some schools of thought might have you renovate if a bathroom is located in the Wealth Area, another school can use Intentional Methods to deflect the drains away.

Some thing you  can do to help deflect the drain energy include keeping the Bathroom door closed, placing a plant (real or silk) on the top of the toilet to deflect the energy of flushing and to watch the placement of Mirrors in the Bathroom.

Remember, a mirror intensifies anything it reflects and we don't want to double the energy of drains.    If possible, hanging a colorful picture opposite the mirror will double the positive energy and address the balance of The Five Elements in Feng Shui.

Remember to keep your bathroom clean and to fix any leaks or drain issues as they relate to health issues such as blood flow and blockages.

Carole, We are in the process of considering a re-do on our bathroom.  I don't like our shower and want to make it bigger.  We are considering using the large tiles, although another option would be the slab of marble.  We are going to put tile on the floor also.  The builder put in carpet except for a small area in front of the tub and the shower.  To be honest I love it but I know from selling real estate that I'm rare in loving it.  Therefore were looking at tile.

We have a large mirror that the builder put in above the sink.  I'm thinking about putting two mirrors above each sink rather than one large one.  What do you think?

I guess I'll have to move my plant from the floor to the toilet; and maybe move the picture opposite the mirror.  Thank you. :)

I know Carole that very small bathrooms feel draining to me. Maybe I just like space. Too many mirrors bother me.

I never thought about feng shui in terms of the bathroom.  Fortunately, my baths seem to pass the feng shui "test"... and I like the idea of the picture across from the mirrorW

Hi Carole-It is amazing how much Feng Shui affects every area of our home and how important it is to have unlimited energy by having everything where it needs to be to do this. I love the top pic. Truly beautiful. Have a great week. :-)

Interesting!  I know quite a few people that have mirrors "opposite" each other in the bathroom - I will have to pass this post on to them!

good morning Carole,

I too had never thought of feng shui in relation to a bathroom, and yet, with all of the drains, it makes sense completely.

Thanks for the tips!

Oh no Carole my big ol' mirror faces the tub & shower it's one of those builder large mirrors. I wonder if I get rid of it (I want to anyway) and put 2 smaller ones in their place if it would correct the problem? I have no other place for a mirror.

I have so enjoyed your series, very enlightening!

Mary, Bathrooms are important in Feng Shui.  It's so nice to know you have a good, reliable plumber--wish I did!

Hannah, It is not recommended in Feng Shui...they bounce off each other and go into infinity.  Some people like the way they look but it's not good from a Feng Shui perspective.

Marchel, Your image should not be broken up in Feng Shui.  I believe it would depend on how far apart the mirrors are.

Sylvie, You're welcome...small changes help!

Gary, Too many mirrors bother me as well.  They should be used carefully.

Kathy, My friend, I am glad you stopped by...now fix your bathroom :)

Joan, I'm glad you're doing well in the bathroom.Feng Shui.  That didn't quite come out the way I meant it..........

Pat, Thank you and thanks for your lovely comments.

Sally, I just posted the last one and forgot.  I will do in in a future post. It's impossible to catch up on here!

Cheryl, I somehow didn't doubt that you did them already.

Thanks, Paddy!  I wish you a wonderful week as well.

Carol, The bathroom is very important in Feng Shui.  Some schools are more strict than others.

Leesa, They're not good from a Feng Shui Perspective.  I've seen it in client's homes at times and ask them to reposition them.

Jo, You're welcome...I hope the information helps.

Karen, I'm glad to hear it...and you're very welcome.

Judi, That was nice of you, I hope your friend enjoys it.

Cynthia, Some bathrooms are just built where the mirror will reflect the drains.  I wouldn't take out the mirror but see if you can deflect the drains if you can hang a towel.  There are other simple things you can do.   Give me a call and I'll explain.  And thank you for thinking of me-- it is appreciated so much!

I wonder if our mothers and grandmothers knew what they were doing when they put those plants on top of the toilet tank. Now you've got me wondering about all the homes I go into where I see lots of candles and seashells in the bathrooms. If you haven't addressed that practice, it might make for a good blog post.
