Hurricane WV City HallHurricane, West Virginia is in for a BIG change tomorrow!  After 40 years Mayor Raymond Peak is retiring.  (Thank you again, Mayor Peak, for your service all these years!)  It's time to elect a new mayor!!

With our Walmart set to open within months and the additional businesses that will ride in on it's coattails, managing our city is just going to become more and more complex.  Walmart alone is going to add nearly $1,000,000 to Hurricane's budget next year!  Our current budget is 2.7 million.  Think about THAT.

Take a little time to think about what changes you want for Hurricane.  Then do the research and find the candidate who stands for what you want.  The top of my list would contain revocation of the dog limit law and restoring the D.A.R.E. program to our schools.  Did you even know they took the D.A.R.E. program out of our schools?  I didn't, and I have two school age kids!

You can read more about the three candidates, Sam Cole, Scott Edwards and Frank Sergent in this article in the Charleston Gazette.

More on Putnam candidates can be found on PutnamLive.com here

We are expecting beautiful weather tomorrow so I am hopeful for a very good turnout.

Hi Sarah- Great advice, hopefully the taxpayers follow it, and research the issues near and dear to them to select their candidate. I am surprised you no longer have the D.A.R.E program, my daughter proudly wears her T-shirt all year long. Locally, as a school board member, we have problems getting parents to attend school board meetings, and then they get upset when a program gets cut due to budget reasons, so if their is a program or issue you want a voice in, write a letter.

Who won?

Chris - SO not my thing -- But thanks!

Allison - My daughter also wears her D.A.R.E. shirt all the time, too.  So often that I've told her I don't want to see it again for a while!  But I did NOT want the whole program to disappear.  Hopefully that will be repaired.

Aaron - I just got up and checked the news, Scott Edwards won by just 25 votes.  They said Sam Cole was ahead all day, then they went back and read the early votes and Edwards was far enough ahead in those to take the win.
