All,

I came home from a BBQ yesterday in which I was the grillmaster, so needless to say I was a bit sunburned, hot, and smoky.  As I drove home I thought, "dang wouldnt it be great to have a pool to dive into!?" My next thought was, "you know, I dont see many privately owned swimming pools here in CO."  My wife, who is from Minnesota, told me that they had pools growing up, and I have experienced first-hand that Minnesota can get much colder than CO.  I am not a native of CO (but got here as soon as I could!) so I wanted to quiz the rest of you - is there a reason, besides the winters, that pools dont seem to be that popular in CO?  Is it a soil issue I am not aware of, etc.?

Jeff, I don't have a real educated answer to your question. But I had a pool when I lived in Broomfield. Between the cost of chemicals and the short swim season it really wasn't worth the trouble. But my guess would be that soil conditions and insurance issues are also factors. When I lived in a CIC there was a community pool that opened Memorial weekend and closed Labor day week end because of the cost.

Hot tubs are the way to go in Colorado!  Of course, it might not have been so good after grilling all day.  Here in the mountains they are very popular for after skiing.

I agree with Dena, I believe pools aren't popular here because of our crazy weather. Our weather is like our people aways on the move, shaking and changing.

Gracias to all, I would agree, and I think the mere cost of putting a pool in and all the expenses of maintaining it would outweigh the time in the summer months of actually enjoying it, not to mention the fact that I would never get its full value when it comes time to sell!
