"Screwed by the Town of Cary?" Gee, I hope not...

Just the  sort of thing to make your heart sink a little, this story has made a splash.

Maynard home with water issues 002

WRAL chimed in, too.

The property certainly has been compromised by the road widening.

The road widening has been well-publicized for years.

The home value has been diminished well more than the $5300 the Town of Cary gave the homeowner.  The driveway alone is a deal-breaker for many buyers, let alone the fact that it accesses a 5 lane boulevard, SW Maynard Road.

And this homeowner is not the only one to have a drastic alteration to the driveway. Other drives resemble ski slopes, too.

SW Maynard Rd, Cary, NC

The right thing for the town to do?

I don't know.  The guy probably deserves more than he has already received.  And $500/day threats over a stupid sign seem a little heavy-handed.

Alas, I also see that the general tone of comments on the N&O page are good reason to have standards and moderated comments, rather than providing a bathroom wall for people to scratch inanities into.

I can totally sympathise with the home owner. He did not sign up for this road way . Hope his sign stays for a long time

Charlie,

Well, it has made it through most of August already.  The story has divided many folks who see both sides of the story.

Mike, bad stuff all the way around. From the outside in, it looks as if they should have purchased the homes because these homes are severely compromised forever. Unless we all start using transporters...

The very reason I'd never buy a home on a road, busy or not, you never know what the future holds.

Wow, Mike, I missed this on the local news! Not a fun place to be for anyone! It might be cheaper for the town and easier for the homeowner if he let them do their fix and then sold the house (there is a price at which it WILL sell, as you know) and got Cary to agree to pay the difference between what he could have gotten and what he did get, so he can move on...just a thought...

I wouldn't want to have to try and sell it - with the way the road goes now, he really is down in a hole.  What's the best use for the property now??

Eleanor,

My crystal ball says that in 6-8 years several of those homes are gone and there is an access road feeding from Pond Street into a townhome community.  Or there is a buffer and a Town of Cary Park.

Andrea,

It is hard to foresee the future sometimes.  When the homeowner bought in 1992, he was on a two lane road.

John,

Right.

Cindy,

If you lived in Cary, and knew how restrictive the Town is on signage, you would have a real grasp of how unbelievable the story is.

SarahGray,

That's why we havve AR, to share around the world, and across the region...

Roy,
