Localism - A Neighboripedia - It's a small world after all - Mpumalanga

Localism sign

Lenn mentioned the travel bloggers on ActiveRain a week or so ago.

I posted something about Ohio schools this morning so went to Ohio on Localism to make sure it looked OK.  It had not reached Localism yet but the top post there caught my eye.  I am sure Mpumalanga is a lovely spot...

I am sure Travelchacha is a great company but it is an India Travel company squatting on ActiveRain in Illinois posting content about travel to South Africa.

I flagged it an I am off to try to find Lenn's post to see if there is something more I am supposed to do to be sure that this ID is deleted.

Discover Mpumalanga

The ActiveRain member who is in "Illinois" has been a member of ActiveRain for a long time.

The ActiveRain member Simon Haris has an associate on ActiveRain.   I have to wonder why???

Why would anyone associate with this sort of ID?

why would someone associate with an account like this?

A Neighboripedia - it's a small world after all -  member since....

He has filled out his profile better than many legit (real estate Industry) members:

"Result driven professional with extensive experience in Online Marketing provides complete search engine marketing solution in delivering improved ranking results on the major search engines using search engine optimization techniques as it takes great effort to deliver the highest quality standards.

Travelchacha an India Travel Counsellor for both Leisure and Business Travel needs. Travelchacha is a Online Travel Portal that specializes in the travel and tourism industry both in the India and Internationally. These services are generally provided to a wide range of Tour packages, Vacation packages , Cheap Flight Bookings hotels and cruise Tours."

A member since January 2009, he has not posted that much.

A Neighboripedia - it's a small world after all  it's not just geography

How does Localism look in your state?  Are there foreign travel agencies? Companies from out of state posting FSBO ads?  Vendors telling the general public that their blogging sucks, or that they should worry about their SEO?

Localism is different than ActiveRain.  Localism is NOT for talking to one another.  Localism is NOT for vendors to sell SEO, or virtual assistants to sell their services to real estate agents.  Localism is for talking directly to the public.

It is easy sometimes to accidently post something to Localism.   You kinda get in the habit. I did last week. Event was in Columbus...  I have corrected it but I think it still shows on Localism.  ;-(

We all have an opportunity to talk directly to the public via Localism.  A post where you are talking about the general public is not necessarily Localism.  Just because that is where you are it is not Localism.  If you are saying "Hey ActiveRain do you wear pantyhose" that is not Localism in Dallas because you are in Dallas... if you are talking to your peers in the industry it is NOT localism.

Localism - Your blogging SUCKS!

Localism - Worse than a pantyhose poll blogging about restaurants!

Localism - What's the point of Localism

That is new to me... but I don't cruise Localism as much as I should.  Now I will.  I AM looking for them as I go through the new sign-ups for GA.

Maureen, I have still yet to find one consumer who knows of the Localism site. Many strange and defunct profiles out there.

Lane I have had some posts show up odd or the links don't work so I try to check outside blogs and Localism just after I post.

Gary Why does anyone have to know Localism so long as Google and the other search engines do?  Wouldn't readers arrives via search engine same as much of the consumer traffic on ActiveRain... same as most blog traffic.

One example

Summitview woods google search

ActiveRain*  / Point2 / Homes.com /  Localism*/ another RE agent  /Real Estate Yahoo / DiscoverColumbusOH.com*

Maureen, This post got me to take a real look at localism, from the eyes of the consumer.  Thanks for the eye opener.

Hi Maureen -- The amount of time (which one can never get back) due to this, spam, annoying lead generation companies calling every week and the list goes on.  Sigh...

It's unfortunate you found these posts out in Localism and good to clarify what it's for.

I've noticed this type of blog post too!  It's annoying, but I flag it for SPAM.  At least when they spam in the comments it's a lot easier to report a concern.  I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds this annoying.

I found Lenn's post finally and the point there was that the travel bloggers were filling up the dashboard and depriving RE members our time on the dashboard.... which really does not matter to me especially on Localism posts where I do NOT want comments from other members saying "Great post thanks for sharing."   The account Lenn was writing about were new members so they are not going to see the light of Google because they are not rainmakers. It would still get to me if I lived in an area and it was polluted with spam.

Jeremy deleted the members Lenn was concerned with that day.

Cindy Jones said in the comments that she's  reported the Indian Packers and Movers and Movers and Parckers but those memberships are still on ActiveRain.  I've reported them as well, more than once.

Michelle  I think the outsiders is probably less a problem in more populated areas.  The website designers, SEO sellers, virtual assistants is probably true in your area.  Consumers come to this neighboripedia to learn about their community or a community they are relocating to.  They don't need to fix their SEO.

Russ Personally I think the members doing it to other members "Your blogging SUCKS"  posts on ActiveRain is a bigger problem than the isolated post about "Mpumalanga."   A peer to peer post does not belong on Localism.  Some people believe it is just one more way to get eyes looking at your post...  they treat Localism as another group.  They are spamming Localism and to me they are the ugliest content that does not belong there.

I just wanted to say "Mpumalanga" more than once and use it to get people to look at Localism close to home and question what belongs.

Chris  It is a horrible waste of time.

Christina  I believe consumers will come to Localism via search engines.  They are counting on the same for people traveling in India, South Africa, etc.  I think Localism looks confusing to consumers but I don't think they read it cover to cover.  I think it is difficult for members to see because of the spam.

Carla The posts are spam but the members are bogus too,  I don't understand ARs reluctance to delete the IDs if they delete a cut and paste nonsense post from an ID with no picture, that has a profile for moving and packing in India, why not delete the ID.

Simon Haris  has left the building.  I get the where did I leave my keys screen now for his Amadeus post  which was cut and paste content from a movie site. Or a "cinema site"  some of their words do kinda class up the site.

keys to Simon Haris

So who shows up on Google now for travel to South Africa?

Travel in South AfricaHopefully Google will forget soon.... or I could make this members only

Maureen,

I spotted some questionable items under referrals, not Localism, and reported them. Will have to keep a closer eye on Localism.

Can we ask the AR gods to work up a sheriff's badge for under our photos?

I don't want a sheriff's badge or responsibilities.   I want it all automated.  They need Mpumalanga filters and why can I never remember the new name for Bombay???  Is it in the name of the Academy award winning movie about Who Wants to be a Millionaire???

and Dubai filters...

No wait that won't work...

I just feel so sorry for the Indiana members, not the movers and packers but the Realtors and lenders.

I guess I just posted to Localism and on my Worthington Outside blog so I need to go check my photos and my links so I might as well take a peak to see if there is any oddness in Ohio now.  At least on the surface.

Legit?  There was a post which I can not find that I commented on and someone else commented about this kind of thing.  "She" posts content all over the US for FSBOs.

That's RE.

I love Localism, but admit to being frustrated by the constant crap that people post there - it really clutters and trashes up something that is quite wonderful.

I don't understand why sometimes we have to and other times it knows us.   I don't have to now but I was signed in and commenting on my own post....

A**holes trying to steal our google juice.  It makes me mad everytime I see something like this.  Purses,  pharmaceuticals,  travel deals,  you name it,  these slime seem to find Active Rain.

They find every place.  I get a lot more spam on my WordPress.org blog.

Can you steal Google juice?  I am not sure it takes any Google juice away from us because they are squatting.

Looking for a prom dress?  I am going to have to look at this part of CA and see how this looks on Localism. The shop is  a member so at least in some parts of ActiveRain people are setting up shop.  It is fun to watch.

Prom dresses...

Shopshop.com is not a rainmaker so there is not a shopshop shop on Localism... just selling prom dresses internally.
