I was checking out one of our client websites today (Cathy Hoppough) http://www.cathyhoppough.com/ and all of a sudden noticed the following announcement on her website:

The Wall Street Journal and Lore Magazine just released their annual list of the top 100 Real Estate Agents Nationally. Cathy was ranked #1 in the state and #9 nationally with 487 transactions! Follow the link below to see the complete list on Wall Street Journal's website:
http://online.wsj.com/ad/top100individualsides.html

I followed the link and noticed another one of our clients George Saab (ranked #16 on the list) http://www.fairfaxcountyshortsale.net/.

I stopped checking the list after #20 but it feels great seeing 2 of our clients on the Top 20. We love working with winners here at RealtySoft.com and it feels great seeing Cathy and George making the top 400 list. Congratulations to both of you and I hope we see your name published again next year.

Sooo... is there a way to know how many on the national list are A/R bloggers?

10:11am • #4

Judith, may I humbly report I ranked in #75 Agents by Volume? I am very proud to be included on this list of noted professionals and am also proud of the 399 other people/teams who made it to the list.

Peyman -

I hope you don't mind, but because Judith asked in comment #4, and because both of these two teams are probably too modest to comment, I will.

I spent a little over a decade in Mortgage Banking from the early '80's to early '90's, and I recognize two teams on the "Top 100 Teams by Sales Volume" list, from San Diego County, and they are Active Rain members.

It's probably been 20 years since I've talked with either of them, but they were both classy, top producers back then - working out of the same C-21 office, coincidentally - so I'm not at all surprised to see that they're still excelling.

They are:             #21 - Mother & Daughter team, Maxine & Marti Gellens, and

                           #60 - Gregg & Debbie Neuman

Congratulations to both of you,

Jeff

First of all, no offense to those agents and teams on the list.....(according to the article some of you may have submitted applications to be on the list)

Reading the article, the ranking was NOT done by the WSJ, but by a company called Real Trends.  In fact, the link to the ranks is not to a "News" article, but to a "Special Advertising Section".  We're not familiar with Real Trends so the significance of being on their list is unknown to us...from the article the list is not WSJ's list, but Real Trend's list that they are advertising in the WSJ.

So its a stretch to promote this list as WSJ's list of Real estate agents.

In fact at the bottom of the page: "

The Wall Street Journal editors and newsroom were not involved in the creation or production of this special advertising section or its story selection."

So I clicked over to Cathy's website and sure enough there was the post from the Wall Street Journal.  Being a new Realtor, I'm always exploring new ways to achieve my goals and watching what the experts do is a good practice.  So I glanced at her Featured Properties and found no record.  I clicked on My residential properties and found 3 listings, none of which even had a photo?  So, my question is, other than word of mouth, how is she doing it?

Ed Kaminsky -> Congratulations to you too, its great to see so many AR members listed!

Jeff Richards -> Thanks for adding to the list!

Dora and Vincent Kwok -> RealTrends is very well known in the industry, they are a trusted source for Real Estate news and statistics. When someone does over 1000 transactions a year obviously they are a Top Producer and deserve to be on that list!

Dan McAllister -> Dan I don't know where you looked but if you go to her website and look under Properties -> MyListings you will see that she has 745 listings (these are her listings not office listings) You can see it here: http://www.cathyhoppough.com/My%20Listings

If you look at her office listings you see a total of 950 listings: http://www.cathyhoppough.com/My%20Office%20Listings

Peyman - Our point is that this list is NOT Wall Street Journal's list as your blog title states...It is an advertisement in the WSJ.  The list by Real Trends could be significant, but its is not a list endorsed by the WSJ...Real Trends merely took an ad out in the WSJ and published their article and list(s).

This post is an attention grabber, but apparently not a WSJ list after all, so I'm not sure how to rate it.

Another side note: When I clicked on the website links provided in the profiles for the agents named here, they did not go to Realtysoft websites. Of course they have more than one website, (so do I), I just thought it was worth mentioning.

OK I have to say as someone who is very familiar with this list and have been for many years...doubters relax. This list has been compiled for years by Lore magazine and Real Trends. It is most certainly a way of marketing their respective products. The WSJ also benefits from this compilation and I have seen more then one ad by or for them online featuring this list. Soooo everyone who doubts take a pill. The WSJ is arms length but not that much. The list is compiled by submissions to anyone who hopes to be on it and from a bit of research. It is not "THE LIST", rather simply "A" list. That being said I am personally aquainted with a couple of the teams on this list and they do very well. It is not a scientific review of ALL agents and teams in the country...but it is a fun and interesting read I suppose. Don't shoot the messenger. Oh, and you can most certainly view the list at the WSJ online magazine when it comes out...well you could in the past at least. Cheers!

Dora, Vincent--thanks for the feedback. Unless I'm mistaken I just ran your MLS #s. I see you have a combined 4 sales for the year.

Regardless if this is WSJ or not, it is a huge accomplishment and I'm honored to be in it and proud of everyone else who made it in.

I'm surprised you're that concerned with it, and didn't make any comment that it's really for 2008 not 2009.

Peyman,

To make that list obviously requires plenty of professionalism, know-how and good old-fashioned work. Congrats to these two agents and everyone else on the list.

One of them, Susan Schieffley, is my Principal Broker. If you have met her you would know birwhy she is so successful. Overall, a great read. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Peyman.

Congratulations to those who made it in the four lists. I saw a few in the Tampa Bay area which is awesome. I have worked with a few from TampaREO.com and the agents are professional and awesome.

However comment #22 from Blair Ballin who is #75 in individual transaction sides with 158 transactions for 2008

http://74.125.95.132/search?q=cache:2lmry6CWC2MJ:online.wsj.com/ad/top100individualsides.html+blair+ballin+wsj&cd=4&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us&client=firefox-a

Be proud of one's achievement. No need to try to embarass other agents here like the Kwoks. Props to those in Tampa Bay but not for comments like comment #22.

"Comment #22: Dora, Vincent--thanks for the feedback. Unless I'm mistaken I just ran your MLS #s. I see you have a combined 4 sales for the year."

Wow, Blair, would you like a saucer of milk to go with such a catty remark?  Nobody singled anyone out on the list.  No need to take someone's skepticism so personal.

1:43pm • #44

Those are all impressive numbers achieved by the individual Realtors and the teams.   The number of sides and the volume numbers are all outstanding.   Congratulations to all that made the lists and to all that want to make it next year good luck to you.

2:16pm • #45

Bravo to ANYONE that can sell/list that many properties.  I wish my numbers compared to those Top Producers.  I am striving to be in the top 20% not the bottom 80%.  Kudos!

Peyman, thanks for the info about Realty Soft.  I'm considering it for me.  Before I was in real estate I was a computer science major.  I have not finished checking out your site and options but my preliminary search says, "YES!"  Writing a blog about someone else is a great way for you to advertise YOUR company.  Smart guy.

~   ~   ~   ~   ~

By the way, all the NEGATIVE comments about who gave the award or when are totally irrelevant to the achievers.  Don't hate people, just try hardermake money

Those people don't even have time to defend themselves (and why should they) with all the time it takes for them to SERVE their clients and go back and forth to the bank!

It's not 2008
12:06am • #47

Karen-I am honored to be part of the list regardless of where it is from and am proud of anyone else on the list as well. So, for them to say it isn't a list from the WSJ is irrelevant--we made the list, and it is what it is. And, rather than focus on where the list came from focus on those who made it and be happy for them/
