Code Red: Emergency Calling System for Collin County Texas Residents

Are you signed up?

Thanks to a grant from Homeland Security,Collin County residents can be alerted to emergency information via pre-recorded phone call. This is a free service that went into effect in August 2009. Collin County is doing it's best to add all local phone numbers to their database. But if you would like to include your cell phone to this list you will need to register. They have an option to receive text.... curious how that will work with phones that truncate long messages. Hmmmm

Collin County continues to be a great place to live and work. City leaders envision Plano to be a City that others will strive to compare. If you are moving to the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex, make sure to see Beautiful Plano.

Collin County Residents can sign up here to register their phones(cell phones too) so they will get delivery of recorded emergency/disaster information.

That's awesome!  I don't recall hearing about that before moving.  It must have been in the works for quite some time!

Of course I havent went there, but do they say what they would do with those phone numbers? I'm afraid they may make that another stream of revenue.

Loreena,

They already have most people's numbers.

I learned about it because the robot called my home phone.

They offered to accept registration of numbers they don't have.... land line or cell.

I would like to think that Collin County doesn't need to trick people with something like this for revenue.

In Frisco they got it when you signed up with the city for your water/trash. I'm sure they're compiling data from such sources.
