Oh my gosh, like they say, if I knew then what I know now!
WOW!
Now I know first hand why there are SOOOO many RAVING MAC FANS!
I love this new baby mini mac and I can not wait until I can make the switch and get my Mac Book Pro and then switch my desktop to the IMAC! I can hardly wait!
We had one of our computers where the video card went bad. When I analyzed the cost of replacing the video card to how much I wanted to switch to Mac and then how much the mini mac is- well- it was a no brainer. No rocket science to figure out this one!
I have a large newer monitor so I wanted to keep it so the mini mac was the best fit to make the transition of converting our office to mac. I plugged it all in, and the best part, it started almost all by itself! I was amazed at how simple, how user friendly, how step by step was so easy to follow and how automatic it all was!
I did not even have to reload all our software for our network. The mini mac finds our network and all I had to do was add my password! It was the easiest networking connection ever!
Well, needless to say I was setting up my Firefox, my IGoogle homepage, my addons to Firefox and Google and got carried away. When I looked at the clock it was 5 a.m.! Time flies when you are having fun!
I have always been a MAC person until my company listing search system did not work with MAC, now I am PC often but always MAC heart!
Nellie- Our MLS also only works with Windows and Explorer. It is the operating systems for their data bases that are all configured for only to work with windows not MAC OS which is the operating system for the MAC.
But I rarely go on the MLS. We have desktops with Windows that are PCs that our staff gets on the mls with. When I need something from the mls I ask my daughter, my listing manager to get to me:)
But you can run the MAC with Fusion which is a software that will get you on the mls. But that slows down your computer. SO the other thing you can do is to get Windows operating system and load both systems on MAC with Boot Camp. Then when you have to use the mls you start the computer in Windows and then switch over to Mac when you are done. Then you have to get anti virus for the windows Operating system because macs don't get viruses!
Petra- I moved all the files off of the pc that was going out on me onto an external hard drive. I won't be importing them back because they are mostly old files and I can access them from another pc. I also don't use Word anymore. I use Google Docs and OpenOffice for everything so I don't think I will be missing much.
Katerina - I might just have to sabotage my desktop so I can get a MAC! :)
Oh, oh... I think I am getting closer and closer to switching to Mac as well. :) ~Rita
The idea of not having virus problems is appealing. I'm apprehensive as to software compatibility. I need to check into it more. I'm way overdue for an upgrade.
Most software that is important comes with the mac os cd. I just added our printers wirelessly in a cinch and the printers came with both drivers for windows and mac. Just use the mac cd, simple as pie. I don't know what other software I would need because the mac comes with everything I would ever dream of having! It is amazing what comes with it! And then I will just pay for my snag it program online and download the mac version. Of course, Firefox has been a dream on mac!
Rita- The mini mac is only five hundred dollars and will last for years and years. We have to replace our laptops and our pcs like every 3 years! The mac is like the energy bunny! It just keeps going....
Katerina - Enjoy your mini mac. The two Apple founders, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, have always known how to design very exciting appealing easy to use computers.
Marc- Thank you! I admire Steve Jobs a lot and love the speech he gave to the graduating class at Stanford.
Joseph- That is what they say about all mac users. I wondered why they all are raving fans and now I know. Apple does not even have to advertise with the word of mouth they get!
Katerina. . .a mac will be my next purchase. . . I LOVE my iphone, I'm sure a desktop is amazing.
You trader! I'm not sure we can be friends anymore. (LOL) Look forward to giving you one of the biggest hugs you have ever received on Monday when we finally meet. Have the video camera ready, don't want anyone to accuse you of not actually meeting me.
Katerina - I used a mac back about 10 years ago when I was the CEO of an architectural firm. I loved it then, but have not really considered using one for real estate. Perhaps I should look into it. I am sure the mac has come a long way in 10 years, and I liked them back then.
Katerina: Two things. My MLS has a patch, or whatever it is, that they send to MAC users, so it was really simple for me to convert my MAC to being able to use my MLS on it. I am NOT very much of a techie, so I have no clue as to how or why it works... just that it does.
Also... buying my desktop iMAC at an Apple Store allowed me to also purchase a set of FIFTY one-on-one lessons with one of the MAC teacher/tech geniuses at the Apple store. Due to health issues, I was not able to take as much advantage of it as I had hoped... but now that I have re-grouped a bit... I should be able to get back to those one-on-one classes... and figure this thing out.
Have fun with your MAC. Take care...
By the way... to anyone who has read this post and these comments... if you are considering getting a Mac... my suggestion is to ONLY purchase it at an Apple Store. Not at Best Buy, or some other store. I have had my iMac for over a year... and whenever I need ANYTHING... I just walk in, and talk to one of their "geniuses"... and... right away... I have my answer. The guys and girls (of course, the great majority of them are younger than my daughter)... they are just wonderful.
The Apple Store I shop at is in Fort Worth... and right down the street from TCU. So... the place is just "crawling" with college kids. What an invigorating store to just go in and browse around in. The college kids are just amazing.
A couple of good free programs... Quicksilver and CarbonCopyCloner. Must haves! Also I LOVE TextExpander and PDFpen but they aren't free. Four of my favorite and most used apps!
Thanks Justin! I just got my new Mac Book Pro a week ago too! After I got the mini mac, I just could not wait any longer for my new laptop! I am loving it!
I also heard that crossover is good for a mock IE for mls. It's only $69.
Karen Anne- Thanks so much for all your tips and great comment. Yes, I would suggest to only buy Macs at Apple stores. That is like a really strong suggestion. Plus the customer service is out of this world! I added on the One on One plan so I can do the one on ones but also we can go every day and work on projects and then just raise our hands when we need help and someone will come over to help. You are right, the geniuses at the bar are so helpful and will help with anything if you bought your mac at an Apple store.
Our mls does not have the patch but there is crossover which is only $69- it is supposed to work awesome. I will get it at the end of the month and add it to the mini so my daughter can work on mls. I don't use mls from my lap top so I don't really care. I just got my new mac book pro. I am never going back!
